Product Description MILES AHEAD is a wildly entertaining exploration of one of 20th century music's creative geniuses, Miles Davis, featuring a career defining performance by Oscar nominee Don Cheadle in the title role. In the midst of a prolific career at the forefront of modern jazz, Miles Davis (Cheadle) virtually disappears from public view for a period of five years in the late 1970s, his musical voice stifled and numbed by drugs and pain medications. Dave Braden (Ewan McGregor), a wily music reporter, forces his way into Davis' life and, over the next couple of days, the two men unwittingly embark on a wild and sometimes harrowing adventure to recover a stolen tape of the musician's latest compositions. Plagued by years of regret and loss, Davis flirts with annihilation until he once again finds salvation in his art. Miles the Man
This movie no doubt had a tight budget because he did not go very far into the past or the present. But I give the director credit for trying to do a movie of a great jazz artist, the man himself Miles Davis. Not sure how much of the movie is true but it was entertaining to watch. Had been waiting for the movie to come out and it finally happened.

Interesting film
Miles Davis was a brilliant musician, but apparently a very selfish, self absorbed human being. Don Cheadle embodies the Davis character very well, but was disappointed that the white writer in the film, who spends several days with Davis to get a story about him was fictional. Interesting film, but can't recommend that anyone purchase it. It is ok for one viewing, but may not ever watch it again.

A Great Social Music Film
Don Cheadle and a community of artists made a film the way they imagined Miles Davis would have, with attitude and always looking forward. Not your Miles Davis biopic (a film we also need) you are drawn in to a world informed by his life, that never happened. It works for me as a Jazz Film, or perhaps I should say a Social Music Film. (See Donald Bogle's essay in the "Mo Better Blues" companion book to Spike Lee's film - I could not articulate why so few Jazz Films worked until he laid it out plainly for me.)

Good Movie
The movie is a look at the life of Jazz Great Miles Davis. I enjoyed the movie very much. I don't know how much of it is truth and how much is fiction. If you are a Jazz fan and don't know or haven't heard stories about Miles Davis you may enjoy the movie as well.

Good flick
I really enjoyed Don Cheadle's performance as Miles Davis; all the actors in this movie do their job, but after watching this, in my opinion, it's a good movie to rent rather than own, unless you're a serious jazz lover because this is not really a bio-pic. Another good movie recommendation that's deals with the jazz genre is "Bird" by Clint Eastwood.

Five Stars
A great movie and makes a great double with "Born to be Blue" with Ethan Hawke

Don Cheadle IS Miles Davis
A great movie about Davis's down period after his marriage broke up. Great action, no bars hold, wonderful performances. The sound track alone is worth the effort.

Love Don Cheadle even more!
I kept wanting to see this movie & could never see it from the beginning or would miss parts of it because of whatever would divert my attention when it was on TV. Now I own it and can see one of my favorite actors time & time again! I love Don Cheadle & it is clear that he loved (loves) Miles Davis. I thought he did a spectacular job enveloping himself into the Miles mystique.... awesome portrayal of the very enigmatic, elusive, complicated genius that was Miles Davis

Eher an Nicht-Kenner gerichtet

Good for Don!
Don Cheadle plays a terrific version of Miles Davis. But frankly I would have enjoyed seeing a more biographical treatment of the life of Mr. Cool.
