This cannot be regenerated and can no longer protect the aqueous layer of the tear film, which evaporates easily. In these circumstances, the cornea is exposed and eye dryness occurs. In addition, benzalkonium chloride has a cellular toxicity on caliciform cells, entailing a reduction in the amount of mucin, an additional reason for disrupting the tear film.”

is this as good as restasis

I have never used Restasis but this works very well for dry gritty eyes.

Does it have a regular cap or that stupid child safety cap where you have to push down and twist to open?

It does have a safety cap (the tired dry eye, at least) but I think it might be so it doesn’t accidentally unscrew and spill in your purse or wherever, as it’s easy to open, just apply very light pressure and twist.
