Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Law, Newest Edition, Trade Paperback

Great understanding of difficult words.

I’m very satisfied. Sometimes you just need to check the word’s spelling, or quickly check what the term means. I found the definitions to be very simple and easy to understand, and there was just one word (so far) that wasn’t in the book (maybe because it’s supposed to be a common-use word (“conscious“ is not in the book, but “conscience” is, lol ) The book is lightweight (advantage because I can carry it around) because of thin paper (disadvantage for some). I’d say, if you want a dictionary to reference it in the real legal documents - buy Black’s, but if for personal reference- this one is just fine!

I bought this legal dictionary as a gift for a friend who had just started studying law. She mentioned that one of the challenging parts was getting familiar with all the legal terminology, so I thought this would be a useful gift. It was also very reasonably priced. She loved it and has been using it throughout her first year of law school. She’s now close to finishing her first year, and the dictionary has been a great study aid for her. I’m very happy with this purchase. It was an affordable, thoughtful, and genuinely useful gift for a law student.

This book was purchased to give me more clarity on legal terms and knowledge in actual legal conversations so that you understand what is taking place when you are discussing things from a legal perspective! Medical terms are different from legal terms, and it is good to have this knowledge.

Who doesn’t appreciate the words therein.

Essentiel pour le droit comparé

This is still a great dictionary but as a first year student and out of school for 10+ years it’s a little bit harder to understand somethings. I’m still giving a higher amount of stars because this will more than likely be more useful once my understanding of everything is better :)

Reasonably good condensed dictionary, it is no comparison to a full hard cover blacks which is way better. But this is handier to carry around. I cannot compare it to Barrons or Blacks 6 condensed as I have not owned them but value wise, this is 1/4 the price of blacks 6 And the definitions are generally helpful enough and likely basically the same. Though some terms are not there or somewhat buried. My issue is the same with all the dictionaries, too much focus on general definitions and not enough on the legal. If a dictionary would focus on the legal they could cut the size considerably and save me time on top of it.
