I absolutely love this stick, and while it only has 8 directions, I often find myself not having to worry about the in between directions. As far as I can tell, it was made with measurements in mind.

For a last minute fix this did the trick. Not the best Happ stick I’ve owned but it gets the job done. Ended up just using the guts and left the red lever on.

The Good: This is a solid joystick. It is a great all-purpose cheap joystick. It plays old school games pretty well. Old school meaning 4-way games like Pacman and Dig-Dug. The Bad: I've been using this stick for about three months now on just about a daily basis. I can feel the spring loosening up a bit. Gives the stick a mushy feeling. Overall: I think you can't find a better stick for the money. I am comparing this to my X-Arcade sticks as well as some HAPP knock off sticks I have in another cab. I plan to rebuild the control panel on my other bartop and put two of these in to replace the HAPP sticks.

I used this joystick to built a CNC controller that emulated keyboard keys. The X/Y CONTROL was fine but I also needed a Z axis control so UP / Down buttons were added to the enclosure, along with an E-Stop. The worse part was hacking the encoder from a scrapped keyboard to control the machine through the USB port. The controller board had a fine pitch pressure connector for the key sheets so the connections needed some small wire, fine line soldering. The keyboard PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN, LEFT/RIGHT, UP/DOWN arrow and ESC keys were needed to match the existing keyboard configuration that drives the CNC controller. The keys were wired as two buss connections so 7 wire pairs were needed. A plastic enclosure was used and a bit of nibbling was needed inside to accommodate the joystick. I also machined a shorter stem for the joystick so the travel was quicker, and changed the top knob to a smaller one. The joystick was configured for the 8 position operation and it's response is now quicker since the throw is shorter. So far, all has gone well! Hope this helps someone...

I usually don't leave reviews on products but a lot of the negatives I felt were just wrong and I decided to share my opinion. These were very simple to install and do so just like the Happ joysticks, I at first thought something was wrong when I installed them but noticed I put the restrictor at the end of the stick that makes contact with the switches, in the 4 way position, and not the 8 way that I needed. Once I corrected my error it worked great and all the moves registered correctly on my Neo Geo when testing it with Samurai Showdown. I honestly would've rated this 5 stars but I have only two complaints with these sticks. The stock microswitches are very loud and stiff, there not terrible but I swapped them out with some Cherry switches I had and intend to do the same with some vintage Matsushita switches on my other joystick. The texture, it feels a little cheaper in my opinion but this is more nit picky then anything. Honestly these are some decent joysticks and you really can't beat the price if you need two or more joysticks for a game, I intend to do a NBA Jam cab down the line and to buy Happ sticks would be 80$ while it will only be 40$ with these. Just remember if your buying these for a 60/1 or similar the games can't register the 8 way input and must have the restrictor in the 4 way position.

Great unit… well made, very tough… should last forever. Larger than I expected, this stick is just what you would expect on a true arcade machine… built to put up with the abuses of the most enthusiastic gamer. Because of this, this stick is not “sensitive”… it likes to be yanked around… the spring force (return to center) is quite assertive. Making an arcade machine? This is your stick.
