The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland 2017 (Unofficial Guides)

More helpful if you've never gone, but there are still some nuggets for the experienced
I think this book is great for people who have no clue what they are doing when planning a Disneyland trip. But if you are like me and you do a TON of research on hotels, food and rides then it might not give you any huge extra incite into the park and what to do. They talk quite a bit about hotels and I already have a favorite that we use that is a middle of the road super close, inexpensive, food inclusive place so that whole section was a waste on us. I liked the input on the food and the highlights of the most common and popular items and the summary of the rides was helpful as well. I also can't speak for using their scheduling tips because we have 2 small kids so we only schedule a basic outline of our day and then go with the flow..... With all that said, IF you've never been to the park... or its been a LONG time then this is a helpful book. And you don't have to follow their advice to the smallest detail to get some benefit out of their tips.

Helpful and worth review!
I really find the Unofficial Guide helpful. The book provides information on all types of Disneyland essentials such as the rides, restaurants, and lodging. The summaries, comparisons, ratings, etc. helps a reader with gathering more details for making decisions. In addition I was able to get a discount on their apps (DLR Lines) and website for vacationing at Disneyland that I can use for preplanning and when we're actually at the parks. The downside is the length of the book, but well worth reading, or at the least, skimming through the parts from cover to cover. You risk missing applicable and helpful information if you don't. In addition, another downside is not getting updates that occur after publication. For example, the Maxpass was just put in place at Disney recently, but the 2017 publication doesn't cover maxpass.

Saved so much time!
My other half and I took our 6 year old daughter to Disneyland for her birthday. It was her first time, he hadn't been for 20 years and I hadn't been for 15 years. So we wanted to make sure to go on every ride. But we are both very indecisive. This book was a lifesaver! Bought it for my Kindle so after reading it and picking our touring plans I took a screenshot of our chosen plans so I could access them easily in the park. We only missed a few rides because they were closed and had a great time! No stress over where to go and what to do next. And enough lax time during and after our daily list to re-ride or grab treats. I would recommend this book to first time visitors or those who haven't been in awhile. There are so many good tricks and tips for each attraction. Best 10 bucks I've ever spent!

By far the best book/guide about Disneyland!!!
I've read several books about Disneyland and by far The unofficial guide is the most through, comprehensive book with the most accurate descriptions of each attraction. It also has the most up to date information regarding the parks such as the attractions that will be closed due to the expansion of the new Star Wars land.I purchased the 2016 guide before our trip last year and purchased the 2017 this year which contained some of the same information but I never felt like I was reading the same book. Ive been to Disneyland 4 times with my family (including 2 small children) and we would definitely recommend this guide for anyone who loves books about Disneyland or anyone who plans to visit Disneyland. We have loosely used some of the touring plans and we have always been able to see and ride every attraction we've wanted to do with minimal time waiting in line thx to the guide.

The only Disneyland guidebook you will need.
My wife had the 2016 guide, and loved it so much she bought the 2017 guide the day we decided we would go again. If you are a planner this is the only book you will need. I think my wife enjoys planning more than the actual trip itself so this was like hardcore porn to her.Last time she marked the book up more than any text book I have ever used, but the beauty was that we used it all as suggestions and ideas. It gave great tips on what rides to ride at what time of the day. The different places to eat and what they have no matter where in the park you are. Hotels nearby and their advantages. And more info that I could go into.At the end of the day if you are looking for a Disneyland guidebook, this is the only one you will need

We're goin' to Disneyland!!!!!!!!
We have been to both Disneys probably 5 or 6 times, and would not go without this invaluable book. It has been a godsend in planning out our days, picking places to eat, etc. I'm a "planner", so I would not be comfortable just showing up with no preparation. There are so many hints in this book that you would never know if you just stuck to the mainstream guides. It includes Universal also. I can't wait to sit down on my next day off and begin making plans. I usually end up just tearing pages out to bring with us each day. I highly recommend this book to anyone making a trip to Disneyland. There is one for Disney World, also, and a new one is published each year.

So glad I bought this
So glad I bought this. A last minute purchase a week before we were going to Disneyland. Many tips that I would not have known that made my trip more enjoyable. Even though I have been to Disneyland before, this was handy. Little tips like - know you can get free water from any of the restaurants if you go up and ask. That was huge so I didn't have to pack around a water bottle. It reviewed the rides as well as dining and events. Also get an app called lines. It was by far the more accurate. More accurate than the official Disneyland app. You can skim through it and pick up the bits and pieces that apply. You don't have to read it cover to cover.

If you're going to Disney (and you don't mind being organized), you need this book
We go every few years to World or Land, and always buy an updated copy of this each time. It's always been worth it. We went once with sister/brother inlaw and they couldn't get their head around having a "plan" to see Disney. Bugged them to have a schedule so we went our way separately. At the end of the day (same start time, same end time) we had easily seen/done 2.5-3x what they did with WAY less time in line and much less stress. Can't say enough good things about this book, looking forward to another successful trip. As for the delivery... it took several days more than the 2day Prime shipping, but thankfully we weren't in a rush.

Invaluable information but tour plans not as useful as expected.
We bought this for our trip to the States this summer which started out with a few days in California - as we didn't have much time we wanted to maximise our enjoyment of Disneyland. We found the descriptions of the rides and attractions invaluable for planning what we wanted to do, and it gave our daughters (and my husband!) a chance to research what was available and decide on our main priorities before we left home. Although we did not use the tour plans as much as we thought we would, the basic advice was very useful, such as avoiding arriving at a park at opening time if there had been a Magic Morning that day (they alternate, so you should visit the other park to make the most of arriving first). The information on food was also very useful to plan what was worthwhile. We were very pleased to find a chapter on Universal Studios Hollywood too, as we had not been expecting that but was helpful for our day there. If you purchase this book you also get a discount on membership of the website/app which offers tailor-made tour plans based on what you want to do and how busy the parks are. However, I would not recommend this from our own experience: we found that the timings were off (sometimes by quite a lot) compared to the reality and the Disneyland app was much more reliable for queuing times etc, despite claims from the authors that their timings are often more accurate. With the new Maxpass facility (not introduced when this book came out) you can choose to collect Fastpasses remotely which changed the way we moved around the parks anyway and we found we could fit a lot more in by organising our own plan.

Great for the first timers
Some good tips. We had been there 10 years ago and knew these were helpful. The plans in the back are the best part. I actually used them as a guide and wrote my own....then Disney has some hickups but thanks to my research and the App that shows you the wait times I was always quick and flexible and able to make the next best plan. We worked the Fastpasses hard and with 2 teens we were able to get it a lot of rides. We don't understand why people choose to stand in the regular lines. We learned how to get our moneys worth.

Must have for any newbie at Disney!
This book is amazing. Having never been to Disneyland and taking our family of 5 this book was extremely useful. So useful that when I lost it, I purchased the digital version! It outlines everything for you. What to do, what to expect, where to stay, where to eat etc. I am so thankful for the guidance of the book and the app! We toured Disney over the Easter holiday. I mapped out our routes using the book and the app so make the most of our time and to avoid standing in line for lengthy periods. By using this we were able to complete all of our plans and stood in line for rides no longer than 40 minutes. it was great. Without this guidance I don't think we would have experienced Disney the way that we did. And while we made adjustments to the plans as the day unfolded (ie. rides closed unexpectedly), we still completed our must haves by noon each day we were there. The third day we left open, but having the knowledge from the book allowed me to plan our route easily so as to not get caught up with the holiday crowds. When it is time to tour Disney World I will be purchasing that book as well!

Totally made our trip
Fantastic information. Really helpful as we went on spring break and the crowds and lineups were huge. We got so much done by following this book, avoided lineups and learned how to use the FastPass system. We got recommended this book by two other families and I am so happy we followed it and so was everyone in our group of 6. Thanks!

Fabulous Book!
This is THE book to buy before your Disney holiday. I'm traveling my husband, two kids and my parents this week, and have literally just walked in the door from a day at Disneyland. This book saved our trip, made the day go flawlessly and I feel that we wouldn't have got a third as much out of the experience if I hadn't read it first. Thank you Bob!!!
