This box is just so beautiful! It is glossy, and the crane design is printed gorgeously! I'm afraid to use it for Osechi (New Years cuisine) because it will no longer be shiny and new. BTW, when you open the carton, there are two flaps that were folded from the plastic bag containing the jubako, so you can just "lift up" the content easily!! Only the Japanese are this thoughtful at packaging! Bravo! You can use them for family bento, or use them for jewellery and watches.. So great! I have 3 jubakos already.

Description is accurate. I am pleased with the Jubako and serves my purpose. The lid is not an airtight lid (similar to a snap on lid) and the box is meant to be wrapped and tied by a decorative cloth called a furoshiki to keep it intact. The “red” is not a fire engine red. It is closer to an orange red. That one star review shouldn’t have passed through the review process just because the person failed to read the description that it is made out of resin plastic. Packaged well and delivered in a timely manner. Hand wash and dry without using any abrasives or else the design will get scratched off. Recommend using parchment paper to line the inner part of the box to maintain and protect its sheen. Be prepared to pay some serious money for boxes that are made out of special wood and lacquer. I would recommend this product and vendor.
