Perfect For Vintage Phonograph
Greetings, this may sound weird. . . . I restore antique phonographs (and vintage Reel-to-Reel tape recorders) that typically have ceramic / crystal cartridges (pickups). This device is PERFECT for matching ceramic cartridges to vintage electronics. The output is line level (-10dB), but workable with high impedance (vacuum tube) amplifiers. I bought one to experiment with. It worked so well - I bought many more. This particular install I use for ingesting transcription discs (lateral or vertical cut) for restoration and archiving.Because this little amp is designed to amplify a piezo pickup (piezo Is crystal afterall) it's perfect for vintage ceramic cartridges.-Tim, Genuine Effection Sound Recorders.

Excellent product
I use these in Cigar Box guitar builds and recommend them highly. Good quality sound, well constructed, easy to set up and I've used these in a number of builds. I will continue to purchase these items and recommend them for anyone doing a Cigar Box guitar build

NOT flat
Pretty standard preamp, one ic on decent looking printed circuit board. Output cable runs thru rubber gromett on case. Battery leads do not. Sounds and operates like all piezo preamps. Purchased this as I needed preamp and pickup for my Ovation. Unfortunately the preamp does not fit. Was able to test but not install as the darn thing was not flat, the portion by the battery instead of being flat has a distinct curve or hook. It will not sit flat on a cigar box ( or my Ovation). The battery box on these things operates by your unlatching at which point the contact springs pop it open, not here, it was binding and required attack by screwdriver as prybar. The pickup is a bog standard 6 element piezo, sheathed in shrinkwrap over the tray. Unfortunately I could not fit it onto ovation bone because a) it was slightly longer than 70 mm even with shrink stripped off b) the soldered lead was 4mm lateral to bass piezo. On ovation it is directly under it. In any other guitar would not make a difference. Overall $12 not a bad price. I may just sand down the hook, smoke more cigars and build a new axe.

Better than my original
I used this to replace the original preamp to my guitar that had some damage and broken knobs. I had to make the hole just a tad bit bigger and it was very easy to install. I do have to say that this one sounds MUCH better than the original that was installed on my guitar. The sound quality is closer to natural acoustic than my last. I would recommend this preamp and you really can't beat the price.

Good buy.
I've installed this unit in 3 guitars now, one being one of my personal guitars & I have no complaints. They have a full, rich sound, don't eat batteries, and very easy to install, even in a guitar that wasn't already electric/acoustic. Well worth the price.

Exceptional sound quality
Awesome pickup! Would buy again for sure. Very easy to install. Total time took 20 min. Sound quality is better than my $200 Gabbanelli pickup. Only thing I would change is maybe if the connection was a all in one strap pin! Would’ve been awesome.

Works pretty well
For what this costs, it's an excellent deal. I used it to replace the old BBand/SRTn system (that are famous for failing) in my Ibanez acoustic. I needed a flatter preamp to fit the existing cut-out as closely as possible. With some modification to the guitar, it fit pretty well and did not take too long to install. I did have to use a rotary tool to deepen the bridge slot for the piezo pickup as it is thicker than the original. This was the case with my particular guitar, but may not be with others. Sound quality is pretty decent. Not quite as good as the original, and a bit more piezo "quack", but works well enough for me. Has a strong output so should drive any amp with no issues. Overall a really good deal, just not 5 star audio quality.
