I bought 3 electric razors in my life - all NORELCOs. 20 years, after the 3rd time i tried an electric razor, I declared they would NEVER EVER get better! When i had the Norelco electric razors the following was my experience. My shave PREP: 1) i have have always owned something like BaBylissPRO GOLDFX. I used this to trim my whiskers down (as close as i could get them) 2) i did a quick wash and dry (face). 3) After drying - 15 minutes or so after - I would use the Norelco. IT was TORTURE! It didn't cut the whiskers - it tried to tear them from my face. I then spent 15+ minutes trying to get it to shave my face!! I HATED IT! I said I bought THREE of them - and i did! I would buy one, HATE IT WORSE than anything, quit using it! Over a number of years (always thinking they would get better - they NEVER GOT BETTER! I swore to everyone - it's pure torture and you will NEVER get a good shave unless you torture. yourself for 40 minutes trying to get a clean shave! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! I SWORE THEN AND THERE - AS I TOSSED MY VERY EXPENSIVE RAIDERS IN THE TRASH - THAT I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER ELECTRIC RAZOR! NOT EVER! OK - SO, I AM ON THE ROAD FOR WORK A LOT!! I WAS SHOWING UP WITH WHISKERS. I WAS BACK TO USING MY USUAL BaBylissPRO Barberology GOLDFX (WHICH I LOVE! IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE - GET ONE! IT'S THE BEST!). WHILE my GOLDFX really took the whiskers down - it wasn't giving me the clean cut my clients expect. (long story short - i was convinced to try the BRAUN). I rolled my eyes and said - it will TEAR the hair out of my face, PI@#$@ me off, i would return it and never ever order another electric razor. I KNEW what was going to happen! PAIN! TORTURE! 15 minutes of trying to get it to cut the whiskers! AGAIN - 3 top of the line (yes - 20+ years ago) electric razors and all i got was torture and a worthless shave! All 3 over a 10 year span (all top of the line) simply ripped the whiskers from my face (nothing that painful in the shave world). it would teak 30+ minutes of constantly trying to get a clean shave. OK - blah blah - you get the idea! So i got this Braun 9, it was dead so i charged it. I used my goldFX to cut whiskers short, washed my face in the morning before leaving the house - grabbed my charged Braun. WAS 100% READY FOR THE PAIN! I knew i had to endure it because i am ON THE ROAD meeting customers and need a clean shave! I stopped outside the clients office, took out the braun, took a bunch of deep breaths saying "i can do this! it's only 20 minutes of hell!" When the braun touched my face - i heard the sound of hair getting cut by felt ZERO! I thought "what in the world?! is this even working!?" i stopped and touched my face. it was baby butt smooth! "what is the hell?!" i thought, is this a trick?!" I shaved my face in 40 seconds. it was baby butt smooth - ZERO pain!! I think i went into some sort of dream after that! This is by far the biggest shock surprise i have had in a LOOOOONG TIME! I could not believe it was real! This is a 5+ star product! I gave 3 stars on everything - only because i have not had it long enough to know if it's good in those areas or not. BUT i will say - HOME RUN! I NEVER BELIEVED this could possibly happen! I was convinced you just don't use electric! BRAUN! WOW! HOME RUN! This is beyond my wildest imagination - i never thought anything like this was possible! I could not even tell this was on my face! 5 star! I will up the other stars once i have had it a while! GREAT WORK!!

To provide some context to this review: I generally prefer shaving with a safety razor and use an electric shaver on those days when I'm in a rush. I tend to buy higher-end electric shavers as they seem to last the longest and provide the best performance. I'm going to say at the outset that this is the best electric shaver I've ever owned. I like to spend more money on electric shavers when I buy them as I find they can last seven to ten years and perform better than lower end models. The first time I used this shaver I was sold. While it doesn't shave as closely as a razor, it's not exactly far behind in terms of closeness. I'm also using this on a near daily basis, something I never did prior to this. I do have one quibble with it though -- my previous Braun shaver had this cooling strip which made shaving with it a little more pleasant. The Series 9 Pro 9419s doesn't have it in favour of a protective skin guard. I'm not sure that the trade-off was worth it, but the good thing is that this shaver does its job so quickly that's not a big deal. The heaviest beard I did shave it with was a three-day, but I do have steel brush beard hair, and it cut it off without any issue, something that my older Braun would have had difficulty with and taken much longer. This is going to sound like hyperbole, and perhaps it is, but if I had to buy one of these shavers once a year in order to keep using it, I would. I like it that much.

I’ve had this shaver for a couple months now, and it does what it’s supposed to. I purchased it to use on my head for haircuts (high and tight) but have also used it on my face. My first impression was wow this thing cuts so much faster! To add a little content, the shaver this was replacing, I purchased 26 years ago. It was still kicking, albeit a little slower. It really is night and day. I still have not run out of the initial charge after 2 haircuts, and multiple shaves on my face. I normally shave with an old school double edge razor so I’m used to a very close shave. This gets close, but not DE close, but this is to be expected. I have no problem using this before going out, or going to work. I like how the cutting assembly is serviceable by a a replacement cartridge. The last shaver had blades below the foil making it harder to clean. This one is a breeze. Shaver is light, fits my hand comfortably, and shaves very efficiently. In the end, I believe you get what you pay for, and yes, this was pricey, but if this is anything like my last one, I feel good spending the money on a good tool that will last a long time. Edit: 1/27/26 - I have now had this long enough to say that this is a good razor. In my original review, I stated that it does not get DE close. That is still true, but I will add this - there is an element of nuance to using this razor, and once you get the technique right, it gets pretty darn close to my DE razor. I now use this electric most of the time, and use my DE maybe once a week. I finally decided to charge it when it got down to one bar. This thing goes for a long time. This was a great purchase.
