Is there any aluminum in this product and are the handles welded?

The steamer is entirely made of Stainless Steel 18/10 but the main pot that hold the water has an encapsulated aluminum layer on the bottom, encapsulated means it do not comes into contact with food but is surrounded with stainless steel . That is not done to save money, on the opposite it's added in order to have an even heat distribution when the bottom is used as a regular cooking pot.

What is the total height?

The total height is 14" up to the handle of the cover.

Is it normal to have a black residue, on the towel, after washing the steamer? I washed it, before using.

Hi, Yes it is normal, while new, Stainless steel will have that residue for a certain time. It is not dangerous in any way, if you want to get rid of it faster you can use white vinegar to remove it instantly. There are plenty of articles on that matter on the internet, you can find them if you google "can stainless steel leave black residue"
