They're pretty vague with pictures and diagrams
Book came in factory-wrapping. No dents or any signs or prior miss-use.I've bought other service manuals. You know the ones. Those that you see at the check-out counters of the major auto stores. They're pretty vague with pictures and diagrams. I know. Because it's one of the main reasons why I grunt every time I have to even think about buying a new manual for a car. You never know if the car you have will actually be the car they explain - even with the years lining up!Take what you know of service manuals and forget about it. Start fresh, guys. Diagrams consist of exploded views, real pictures (with on-picture labels), computer-generated diagrams, Shadings, some are colored. I really can't convey the amount of correctness in these pictures. Gone are the days of those words: "Other Models Similar" attached to pictures. NO. They're not similar, other manuals! Stop it. Stop lying to yourselves! This book has none of those vague expressions. And as a beginner DIY-Mechanic... I don't even own a torque wrench before buying this manual... Thank you.I made several in-depth DIY forum posts about multiple cars because I felt like the manuals were lacking. I don't feel that OCD need to help people when I look at this book. It really is that good. It's also thicker than all other manuals combined. Taking the time to label and shade and point out what you need to convey in a picture takes time. They definitely didn't cut corners.Yes. The cost is definitely more than the others. The way I see it - the cost of fixing a problem caused by the 'Vague' manuals was more than what the procedure in this book. You shell out more money to make sure you shell out a LOT less money. It's your money.

Best MK5 VW manual available
If you can afford it this is the best MK5 VW repair manual available. Absolutely better than Clymer or Haynes. Clear, detailed photos, VAG and OBDII codes, electrical diagrams, detailed disassembly diagrams and more. It covers diesel as well as the 2.0 turbo and the 2.5 five cyl., and auto and manual transmissions. It breaks down disassembly processes by component so it's easy and consistent to follow. Breaks down procedures and diagrams also by year range (took me a while to figure this out in the fuse diagrams). It will pay for itself with the first repair. I take mine to the U-Pull It yard to make sure I'm getting the right parts and to get them out in one piece without destroying everything around it. With this and the iCarsoft Diagnostic Tool VAWS V2.0 you can do almost anything.

Worth the money...
I have always bought haynes and chilton manuals in the past. I liked haynes better because they used actual photographs in their books rather than drawings. I was disappointed to see that both of these companies didn't offer a manual for this car yet. It's such a popular car so you would think they would. This is pretty much the only manual there is for the time being and it's EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! It's worth it though. I posted a few pics of mine. As you can see it is very thick and a very good quality hardcover book that will last. The first 20 or so pages are full color with diagrams of various major components of the car. The rest of the thousand or so pages have very detailed black and white photographs with arrows to show what the narratives are explaining. There are drawings too. For example, it shows step by step photographs to change your brake pads, but there are drawings that show clutch replacement. This isn't a huge issue though because the drawings are very well done. I would have posted pics of actual pages, but I'm sure the publisher wouldn't be too happy about that. Check their website for excerpts. The bottom line... I was nervous paying so much money for a manual when I have never used one from this company. Don't be. It is actually more detailed than a haynes or chilton manual making it the closest thing to an auto shop service manual you're ever gonna get.

Helpful for those that know
Admittedly I am not well versed on how to work on cars. I have a TDI and I'd hoped that getting this book would give me the information I needed to be able to perform repairs that the dealerships were raking us through the coals on. Don't get me wrong, there is a great deal of information in this book. I was able to get part numbers and an understanding as to where and how specific portions of the car are setup. One thing I was hoping for was a little more detail as to how to replace parts. It is possible that since I'm trying to address a specific issue (replacing an ABS module & pump) that is probably outside my beginner range that my expectations are unrealistic. The book provides great detail to how the break system is setup, and I was able to find the correct part numbers. Although it's not like the ABS module is directly accessible. I was hoping for a break down of what needs to be removed in order to replace the part.Overall I'm still happy with the book, and since I have two TDI VW's in the year range for this book I'm sure I'll get my money's worth (I'll have saved a significant amount of money if I can perform the fix mentioned).

Great book for DIY for your MKV
Bought this new. Comes with a lot of information, some might be things you won't need such as electrical schematics. But for basic work, this is invaluable.

Does not cover timing chain on the 2.5L (BGP engine)
Does not cover timing chain on the 2.5L. And for that I rated 4. As a DIY mechanic timing chains are not your typical repair but still. I was curious about it. FIY you have to take the transmission apart (09G) if you plan on replacing the timing chains (there are two: upper and lower) on the 2.5L engine. The manual does not cover the dismantle of the sunroof either if you were planning on replacing the saggy headliner (a characteristic of every VW). The rest of the manual is top notch. Buy with confidence.

Awesome
Best quality manual I have ever owned. Price is higher than a Clymer but fair for what you get. These Bentley Manuals are a must if doing VW maintenance. Shipping was free and fast!

Great Garage Floor Companion
This book is a great help to understand the layout and schematics of most 'under-the-hood' schematics, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting issues. One of the great things is the listing of almost every single torque specification for all of the jobs detailed for maintenance on the vehicle. Some of the jobs skip steps in detail which can be frustrating at times, or allude to a step that isn't further explained, but there is very little alternative to Bentley when it comes to comprehensive repair / maintenance descriptions. It has a code to be used online for updated information, which sounds like a great idea and useful. I haven't used it but I'm sure it's value added to complement the written publication.
