Do a google search for "top grain vs full grain leather". Chrome-tanned leather is also real leather, but it can't be tooled, wet-molded, or edge-burnished. There are also different types of veg tans and chrome tans, so do some research to figure out what kind of leather you need to suit your needs. Also, if you want 100% leather, stay away from anything that says "genuine leather," which is often bonded. Bonded leather is another key phrase to help you in your research. This would probably work but it is a bit soft. I believe this stuff is some kind of chrome tanned leather. I use veg tan leather for all of my strops. I load the rough side with some kind of compound and keep the smooth side for finishing touches.
