Q: Is this similar to the black ink cartridge that comes with the pilot Metropolitan?

Yes, this should be the same ink.

Q: Good for vintage fountain pens?

Yes, definitely. Never have any problem with Pilot inks. I even used it with my Mont Blanc, Pilot, Sailor, Waterman, Parker, TWSBI, Kaweco or any generic fountain pens.

Q: How many refills does a bottle equal?

It depends on the size of your cartridge/converter of course, but I just filled my squeeze converter for the 3rd time and the ink is only now down to the base of the neck of the bottle. It will last me forever! But if your converter holds one ml, then you have 70 fills. But most pens hold less than that, so you potentially have between 70-140 fills. It is a fairly large bottle and totally worth the price in my opinion.
