The Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice, 3rd Ed.

Initial review, with one star given: Completely misprinted. Over 50 pages of the book are missing. An inexcusable mistake from McGraw Hill.(I was particularly perturbed because I had taken this book to Latin America with me so I could do some intensive review, and I had no way of getting another copy while I was down there.)New review: I asked to return this book to Amazon, and I got a full refund, with no need to return the book. Then, I received a wonderful email from Christopher at McGraw Hill with an apology (which was not needed, but appreciated nonetheless) and a sincere request to fix the issue by sending me another copy right away. I really appreciate that the authors (Ronni Gordon and David Stillman) are interested in the reviews of the book, and that they contacted McGraw Hill, and that Christopher went to such trouble to help me out.Having said all of that, as I really wanted to be able to do this intensive Spanish review on my trip, I bought and downloaded the Kindle version, and it rocks -- beautifully laid out, with an easy way to switch between the exercises and the answer key. The book is very well written -- clear, thorough and concise. There is also an app (Language Lab) that McGraw has on the app store that is fantastic and really supports the material in the book. My favorite are the extensive vocabulary flashcards -- I am so used to making my own, and I am happy not to have to do so. I've seen a lot (a lot!) of Spanish texts in my time, but this one really does beat them all with its clarity, organization, accuracy and thoroughness.So -- to sum up: Odd, surely rare printing issue with my copy of the book. I am sure the others are fine. Great customer service from McGraw Hill. And a terrific book all around -- whether printed or Kindle version.

As an intermediate speaker of Spanish I found this to be an excellent tool for reinforcing and expanding my understanding of Spanish grammar while helping me put the enhanced understanding into practice. The book is clearly written, comprehensive and frequently provides insights that I had not previously encountered. The book is an excellent grammar reference and the exercises are spot on. I particularly benefited from the exercises where I had to choose between the preterite and the imperfect tenses, those for ser and estar, those for para and por and those for the definite articles. I have tried at least 5 other books that supposedly were designed for review and practice of Spanish but none comes close to this one.

This book is great but not for an absolute beginner. A few reasons I say that. (1) It's information-dense so you'll be given lots of instruction on every page. (2) It contains exercises at the end of each lesson and has an answer key so you can check your answers--but the instruction for those exercises is all in Spanish. (3) they dive right into verbs so it's not like a beginner book where they start by teaching you nouns for vocabulary. If you already know some Spanish and want to progress or you want to understand Spanish grammar better, it's a great book. It also comes with an app (see the back cover) that lets you access lots of flash cards and resources. This book has challenged and helped me improve.

These books are fantastic and while they exist for Spanish and French, I wish they had them in this same format for other languages. I speak several languages at differing degrees of proficiency and would love a book like this for all of them.This book is ideal for advanced speakers, but also good for beginning and intermediate students who are somewhere along the way on the journey to learning Spanish (i.e. not for someone who is just taking Spanish 1 in college to get the credit and then will not touch it again). It's separated into grammatical topics with ample practice for each one, and the answers are all in the back of the book.Note that this is a comprehensive grammar review, not meant for training specific vocabulary or phonetics.

Amazing amazing amazing! Let me first say I have their second edition (with CD) and I love this book. I had used their Italian one a few years ago and it was of such great help. I have been using this for Spanish for the past few days and I initially had a lot of issues with the grammar, especially verbs, and I feel like I have made great improvements in such a short amount of time. Furthermore, the exercises provided reinforce the grammar and they are quite entertaining and diverse. I really enjoy that they give you a list of verbs in the first chapter and throughout the section you will be using many of them. By doing so, you learn how to use the verbs in context!I would like to thank the authors so much! :)

I had the exact same issue as Linda P. The book skips from page 50 to page 115, then goes from 146 to 83 before continuing onward like normal. Therefore I am missing pages 51-82. I am not certain how to contact the seller/publisher for a replacement, so I hope that this review may be seen. Aside from that, this book is an outstanding resource for intermediate Spanish learners, and I would recommend it highly.

I am looking to get my Spanish going again after a forty year break and this is just what I was looking for. Very detailed but easy to understand with lots of exercises that are very practical in their nature. As others have noted, it is very hard to find the link to the free language lab and audio review features. It is not mentioned in the section on the APP, and I couldn't find it anywhere else. I finally found it in very small print on the back of the inside cover page under the copyright and ISBN numbers. It really belongs in the Preface section on the App.

I really like this series and I would love to see them produce more for all the major languages. I already have the French and Spanish books and I hope they expand to Russian, Mandarin, Arabic etc, too.

This is a great resource, clearly set out with follow up exercises and an essential book to back up your Spanish course.

I found this book to be extremely helpful but you need to have done a good level of Spanish.

Brilliant for the intermediate advanced learner - most useful with plenty of exercises and everyday phrases/vocab used throughout

Very good book but more for intermediate students rather than beginners like me.
