Wes Anderson's THE FRENCH DISPATCH brings to life a collection of stories from the final issue of an American magazine published in the fictional 20th-century French city of Ennui-sur-Blase. With an all-star cast that includes Benicio Del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Lea Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Timothee Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Amalric, Stephen Park, Bill Murray and Owen Wilson, this vibrant film is a funny, moving celebration of journalism. Review: THIS FILM IS FOR FANS OF THE NEW YORKER, NOT NECESSARILY WES ANDERSON FANS - If you have never followed The New Yorker, now approaching its 100 year birthday, it’s a good chance you will not be able to relate to this great film. Wes Anderson long-time die-hard fan of the magazine, and it shows. There are real folks hidden behind the name-changed characters, the great journalists and writers, and the original editor and co-founder of the magazine Harold Ross. Ross deserves his own story- he quit school at 13 to become a newspaperman! The film is quirky, just like the magazine, and the film is not afraid to make fun of itself. The film uses unique stagecraft, black and white, and color mixing live-action and animation–it is a whirlwind! Watching the film is almost like turning the pages of this wonder of a magazine from your most comfortable chair. At the end of the film, there is a “dedication page” for all those talented writers whose typewriters ceased to tap-tap-tap long ago but whose words live on forever. If you are interested, the entire magazine is online, almost 100 years worth via subscription. The online layout is exactly like the magazine, including the original ads run in each issue. If you want to have fun, search for your birthday, and see what the world was like the day you were born. This is a fantastic film with a great ensemble cast; I cant wait to watch it again. Not the best of Wes
I am a HUGE Wes Anderson fan. He is is a genius and created some of my favorite movies. The French Dispatch has a massive cameo cast with incredible actors. I did enjoy the movie but was less than thrilled with with story told in vignettes. I would have much preferred one cohesive tale where the characters are well developed. That is part of the charm with other Anderson movies. Rich character development of odd and quirky people who the audience grows to love. I hate to say that I was disappointed but, truth be told, I was.

Great movie! Loved it.
This is a movie that gets funnier every time you watch it. And you have to view it more than once to pick up things you missed first time around.

Not great. (I know that's sad, but it's true.)
Wes Anderson films, for me, are philosophical truths, deep, moving ones, hidden in a pastiche of yummy, intelligent absurdity. This was just mostly weird. That being said: Bill Murray was perfect. Absolutely perfect. It was nice to see familiar faces in cameo appearances, but overall, it seemed like this was overdone, belabored, and not clever-funny, but kind of ouch. I was glad to see it, and there were some good parts, and some touching parts, but I never laughed out loud, not once, and I missed that. It's a good enough film that you don't want to miss it, simply because how can you miss a Wes Anderson film, and not weigh in on it? I think, sadly though, that Wes Anderson films may not ever be as good, as magical, and as funny as they were before. Weird, on its on, is not enough.

Very good Wes Anderson film
Fun movie in the usual whimsical style of Wes Andereon. While The Grand Budapest Hotel is still my favorite Wes Anderson movie, The Fretch Dispatch is high up on the list now. It can be so captivating you completely forget you're watching a movie about The French Dispatch because their stories are so engrossing 😎👌

A Masterpiece
Along with The Grand Budapest Hotel, this movie shows Wes Anderson at his best. Both are masterpieces of film making. You can simply enjoy the plot, or you can watch again and see something different each time. Is there a newspaper shown on screen for three seconds? Freeze-frame and read it, because Anderson's world's are so fully realized the news articles reference them. I'm not a fan of all of Anderson's films. But I appreciate how with each movie over his career he more closely approached his potential for story telling, which he reached with Moonrise Kingdom, and amplified in this film.
