This is the classic bicycling hat that used to made from cotton years ago, and is not synthetic. Fits well to my head that takes a 7.5" hat. There is a strip of elastic to keep it snug and accommodate different sized noggins.Once worn instead of a helmet, these now serve under the helmet, mainly to provide a visor on certain visorless helmets. It also can be used to keep your head cool, acting as a conduit for convective heat loss, keeps sweat from soaking into the helmet (a bit), and keeps your hair together so you don't get "helmet hair."These hats are easily washable and dry fairly quickly, so if you're commuting, you can wash it on arrival and it will be mostly dry when you depart. (The visor seems to use a plastic insert so washing has no effect on it.)
