Unless you define "work" as just a circular device to hold your hose and there are cheaper options for that. The beauty of this is that once mounted it rotates and reeling in the hose is simple and fast. Better to drain the hose before winding though since it weighs less.Although it is rated for 100 feet it should not be so rated. It doesn't work well with that much hose which is too large for the reel. Better to go with a fifty or 75' hose. **Q: Where are the mounting holes located on the unit? Can you mount using 2 screws top and bottom if they r long enough?** A: The spindle comes off wall mount. Since you'll be cranking up a hose full of water, there's quite a bit of pressure on the mount. I would use 4 screws ( 2 top, 2 bottom ) and try to hit one pair on a wall stud if possible or use a proper anchor. I have used this type of hose reel for 10 years+ and really like them. **Q: I have a 200' hose. Could I wind up 100' remove it from the winder and then wind the rest of the hose up and have two circles of hose?** A: I hope this is not joke. You could wind up 100 feet of hose, then carefully remove half of the reel assembly, at which point the wound up hose coils will want to fall off from the hub. Provided, that you can slide off the hose coils, place it on the ground. Now you have to reattach half the reel and continue with the other 100 feet. After the reel is full, you'll need to take half the reel off again to remove the hose coils. The reel finally burst and water was gushing out of it. I thought the old reel was irretrevably broken and I ordered a new one. But when removing the old one I discovered that the short leader hose got brittle and burst. I could have just replaced the leader hose. Everything else looked to be in fairly good condition, even the O-rings. So I installed the new one but kept the old one and will plan on using it at another station.I read other reviews that complained about the leader hose kinking. But my old one never kinked, and the new one did not kink. Perhaps the whoever installed it did not route it carefully. It's a decent hose reel for a decent price. Most other hose reels seem to be enclosed inside a box. That will turn into a spider nest and also you won't be able to carefully wind the hose neatly onto the reel. A few days before the 3-year warrantee expired, the plastic elbow where the garden hose connects developed a pinhole leak. I notified Suncast on their web site, emailed a photo of the problem and purchase documentation they requested, and received a free replacement of the entire assembly yesterday. Replaced the parts in 15 minutes and this reel once again works like new. They even enclosed a silicone lubricant pack to protect the O-rings and help maintain a watertight seal when the reel rotates.Considering the average annual cost of less than $10 for this Suncast product so far, I’ll probably buy another one when this one can no longer be repaired economically. Kudos to Suncast for having Customer Service reps that back up their warranty.ORIGINAL REVIEW 2017:This is an inexpensive hose reel, all made of plastic, so you can try the idea out and see if you like it. You do need to mount it and attach the hose ends with care: if you stress the plastic or cross thread it, it will break.I followed the instructions to a T and have had no problems in the past month. It doesn't leak at all, the reel is easy enough to wind up that the lack of any bearings isn't an issue, and it keeps the hose off the ground and neatly organized. I expect to get a couple of years out of this item and by then I'll know if it's worth it to me to pay 5-10 times as much for a metal version with bearings, hose guide, etc.Like many others, I can only get about 50 feet worth of mid-quality hose on the reel, but that's all I need.
