What about using on watercolor brushes especially when the pigment stains the bristles - will this work?

It might, but at a price. I’m not sure about Castile soaps but there must be cheaper options for watercolor brushes. Masterson’s makes a soap for brush cleaning and there are all natural lavender oil soaps which might be as effective if the brand is trustworthy and contains enough lavender oil. I’m not sure what the percentage would need to be for this and that’s what you pay so much for, but make sure there is enough oil to condition bristles without leaving them oily. You want your brush’s to absorb water still.

As listed on the box, olive oil, water, lye, lavender oil and wax.  Gloves are recommended if you have sensitive skin and keep away from eyes.

Is dr. bonner’s liquid castile soap safe/effective for watercolor brushes? specifically squirrel and weasel hairs/synthetic? i have the aforementione.

I really couldn’t say, but considering I won’t use Castile soap on my own hair or skin because it’s so drying, I’d never recommend it. Maybe others don’t have this same problem with Castile soap as myself but that’s been my experience with it. All natural doesn’t always mean better than other products.

That’s a hard question to answer as each brand of paint uses different ingredients and pigments. The only way to know is by trying it but stains aren’t the most important to be concerned about with a good brush, conditioning it is. Like your own hair a natural hair paint brush may need a bit of care to keep them healthy and longer lasting. You might contact sellers like Dick Blick and ask what they would recommend for proper brush care.
