Slide the oyster in, press, and pop ... done. It is so quick and easy that I can now keep oysters stocked like snack food. Midnight craving? No problem. Cocktail hour? I am the fastest shucker on the block. My buddy, who once sliced his hand wide open trying to prove his “oyster expert” status, used this and admitted it was the best shucking he ever had. No bandages required. It is sturdy, it is simple, and it speeds things up so much that I no longer dread the prep. Honestly, this gadget turned oysters from a special occasion ordeal into an on-demand luxury. If you love oysters but hate the hospital bills that come with shucking them by hand, get this.

Well, I was sceptical due to its low price (compared to other such gadgets) but took a chance to order this product, as I was running low on O positive and band-aids shucking the old-fashioned way. I had a dozen St.Johns River oysters waiting patiently in the fridge when it arrived. It took 5 minutes to assemble and, without having any experience in operating such a contraption, not even that long to open 12 succulent bivalves for my lunch. I couldn't believe it. Made from solid metals, it's sturdy, easy to set up and use and damned effective. The oyster knives that come with it are a joke but, if you are getting this device, you probably already have a decent knife anyway. I recommend this product.

We love raw oysters and clams; this tool makes shucking much more easier than doing it by hand. This shucking tool is well-made and comes with a screw-type clamp to secure the base to a table. It feels like this tool was designed to be used with a wooden or plastic outdoor table, not on a nice countertop in your kitchen. I say this because the base of the shucking tool is bare metal, and to use it in our kitchen we had to find a small, non-slip pad around the same size to ensure it didn't scratch the countertop during operation. The same is true for the clamp provided in the kit. It works, but not on a nice table or countertop. Rubber pads on the clamp might solve this issue, but we bought two small bar clamps with rubber feet to secure it on either end. Once we got the non-slip pad and the bar clamps it made using the oyster shucker a dream! I hope this review helps because using this tool makes shucking fast and easy!

Product works as advertised. I'd make one recommendation to the manufacturer. On the plate they have 'non-skid' ridges in the base plate to keep the tip of the oyster from sliding. They only run in one direction as a series of parallel lines or ditches. I'd look at running them in both directions in a cross-hatch pattern. With some oysters it's easier to turn them 90 degrees to get the spike in the hinge. When you to this, the downward edge of the oyster isn't as stable and can slide easier. Other than that, this product is great and I'd buy it again.

I'm a newbie and finally mastered shucking oysters. This did help, but it will tear the shell all to pieces and waste all the liquor out of the shell. I use it when I have a very stubborn oyster. You must use it very lightly and just to slightly crack it open and finish with a oyster knife so you can keep the liquor inside the shell and not stab the oyster in half. Whew! Don't over think it and just slightly open the oyster if doing it manually scares you.

I used this product to shuck 2 cases, (est 225) of oysters in 30 minutes. Small learning curve, once you figure out the leverage and correct insertion point its so easy. 2 person team, one to open and one to clean up with a knife. Beat oyster accessory purchase so far.
