5 Ton Come Along Winch by JABETC

I bought one similar to this one from harbor freight. It busted in the first 30 min of using it and left me in a hard situations. After it busted I bough this one from Amazon, used it on the same truck as the harbor freight tool, and it worked like a charm. Money well spent.

I was surprised at the strength of this come along but at the same time, I had extreme difficulty trying to release when it is under stress. The tree trunk I was pulling out jammed on another tree. I could not get the come along to release so I could reposition it. This also applies at anytime when it is under stress. After a half day of use, the smaller thinner parts are showing extreme wear. But with some manual help for releasing pressure it performed well.

good solid two gear ratchet. I just wish the cable was longer. I use it for prejudicing the fall of trees when I drop them in my yard. I team this up with the other come-along to put the max pressure in the most favorable direction. Don't try cutting and dropping trees unless you KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!!! Trees do what THEY want to do once you cut them... and with a little breeze they can be downright deadly.

I needed four of them to get my son's jeep out of a very bad place. It was inaccessible for a tow truck to reach but the four come alongs were able to get it to a ridge that he could then drive it out.

I bought the 5 ton monster to replace the weak 1-2 ton products I have used in the past. I have not used it yet but have it in my truck for emergency recovery use in future.

Poorly constructed. The ferrule that "secures" the hook to the cable pulled of on first use.Had to go to hardware store to replace the part. The clips on the hooks are made with light weight rivets, thatmade the clips floppy and worthless after the first (and only) use.I did not return the product because I did not consider it proper to return a used product, even if it was poorly constructed.Had I bought it from a local store I would have returned it to at least complain.DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE! AVOID THIS WINCH!

Very heavy duty and does what I need

I purchased the come along on 7/22/10 finally got out to use it on 8/21/10. Within 10 minutes the cable popped, keep in mind the initial 6 minutes is setting it up. Our group figures it was a defective device because we immediately used a 3 ton version of it with much success. The 5 ton come along came from ToolPrice, I doubt if they exchange it but BE WARNED. Avoid this product.
