I bought this a little over 2 years ago to replace the non-functioning original in a late 80's John Deere lawn tractor. It was a great replacement for those 2 years and functioned well, though I only used the tractor 3-6 times each year to pull a trail mower or a yard cart. Over this past weekend the back of the switch fell off and enough pieces were lost that I was not able to reassemble it correctly. I will be buying another one but this time I will make sure to crimp the casing in a few spots to try to keep the back of the switch from falling off. As long as you make sure that the back is crimped in place I think it is a good replacement for the original and great value for the money spent.

This worked well on my old John Deer GX75. No modifications necessary to make it fit. It installs in 5 minutes. The keys even match the originals (the photo of the key shape is accurate) so I was able to keep using the old key with the black rubber JD logo. Note, if you suspect a key switch failure, check the in-line 15 amp ATC fuse located in the wiring beneath the key switch panel. This was my actual problem. I did not realize there was a fuse hidden in there until the switch change did not fix my problem and I checked further. My fuse holder was barely recognizable with all the grime on it but I promise you it is there. It's the only thing that keeps the battery from melting the wiring should you have a dead short.

Works just fine. Definitely not as high quality as OEM (you do get what you pay for), but we've had no problem in the month it has been in. And it did solve the nettlesome problem we had with the solenoid not kicking in properly. That was caused by the old starter switch's contact just getting oxidized with age and use.

It may work on a John Deere z425, if it doesn't fall apart.The only visible problem was a bent key. The provided keys are a touch thinner than the original. No biggie. I installed it and was genuinely surprised on the first turn of the key when the bottom of the switch fell off. Some small parts were lost, thus rendering it unfixable.If you order this, check how well the ignition body is crimped to the switch board. If the board has any wiggle you must either tighten the crimp yourself or start the return process.Also, consider donating to Feed A Snickers To A Chinese Laborer because those kids omit crucial assembly steps when they are hungry.

I bought this product for my dad to replace the original starter on his JD Hydro 165. Within abuot two weeks of moderate use, the starter switch begin to miss a bit when you turned it - you need to stop it at just the right spot. This happened with the original started as well after over 20 years of use. That said, it still starts the tractor everytime (you just have to have a little finesse!).

Right switch for mower and good price. However, mower deck can now be engaged when not sitting on mower seat. No problem for me, but it may be if you have young persons using your riding lawn mower.
