Works at low volume!
tl;dr Great product. Highly recommended. USB audio is a must. This review is a bit rambly, but I don't care enough to spend time editing it.I like to listen to very quiet background music at work to drown out office noise. This is apparently an unusual use case, considering how hard it was to find helpful reviews. I had this idea that going wireless would be nice and comfortable, and straightforward, but that ultimately led me on a wild goose chase for a device that accomplishes this super basic goal.I ran into two problems:1. low end transmitters introduce static. It happens on every pair of headphones I own (4 different models), and with or without the charger plugged in. This is only the case for the very cheapest transmitters. I originally assumed that bluetooth transmitters should be standardized like wifi, and thus be all basically the same. Unfortunately, that reality is still a ways off. Each device supports a different set of mostly proprietary codecs, which aren't very well documented. The only one that gets advertised is this aptX one. I guess lower end transmitters fallback to like one crappy codec that only works at low bitrate, because they sound bad. Even at normal volume the static can be overwhelming.2. Going up a notch from the ~$10 range to the ~$20-$40 range fixes the static problem, but another serious problem remains. All transmitters that connect to the source via analog connections (RCA, 3.5mm) have to guess when they should be transmitting based on the volume of incoming signal. If they think there isn't a signal, they cut out to total silence. Or alternatively, they just cut off some threshold as a lazy noise filter. Either way, they have a distracting cutoff threshold when the source volume is below ~25%, and are completely useless below ~15%. I tried the high end models from several brands, and they all have this problem. Additionally, none of the models I tried allow you to adjust the volume via the headset buttons. Supposedly some of the Avantree models do allow both analog connection, and headset volume control, which might fix this.Long story short, if you want no static, and low volume functionality, you need a transmitter that handles audio in digital form from throughout the transmission. This narrows the options down to models which support USB audio, or maybe optical audio (I didn't test optical, but I assume it would work). For some reason, Avantree seems to be the only manufacturer that makes Bluetooth transmitters with built-in USB sound cards. Go figure. It uses standard USB audio drivers, so it works out of the box with Linux, which is another necessity for me. I can't comment on video lag or dual-link because I'm not using it for those purposes.

Cuts off audio entirely in near silent scenes - Updated version is available
Update March 31, 2018:I was contacted by Avantree customer service in January 2018 and offered to try an updated version of set HT3187 to see if the issue I had experienced would go away. Firstly, it’s great that they had acknowledged the issue with their product. Secondly, it’s great they were quick to come up with a fixed version. I recently had a chance to try the updated version of the set (which took 8 weeks to get delivered from China to my door in VA) and **it did perform well - none of the issues the set had before showed up**.Now, if you get your hands on the updated version of this set HT3187 then you will get an awesome immersive experience watching movies and tv series where people talking about stuff is the reason you are watching it. But, the set labeled as model HT3187 is currently all mixed up - the company did not come up with a solution to distinguish between the old version and the new version. You’ll never know which version you will receive until the company makes an effort to label entire currently available stock as “updated/fixed version”. They also say they have awesome customer service department and would exchange any old versions (defective versions) to the new versions (updated/fixed version), which is nice but obviously not what I would want to go through. So, it’s your call. You might as well message them directly before placing an order to ensure you are getting the new updated version of HT3187 - because this set is totally worth it.——————————————This is a review for the “Pre-Paired SET - Bluetooth Transmitter + Receiver” which includes Priva III transmitter and Clipper Pro receiver. The prepared transmitter and the receiver cut off audio entirely in near silent scenes in movies and tv series. I replayed the same scene many times with the same result just to be sure. I also replayed the same scene with no issues with all wired setup with the same headphones. I noted down that the prepared set was connected in AptX LL mode (2 white led blinks every 5 seconds). Also, I’ve tried 3 (that’s three!!!) different sets of this exact product - two back in October 2017 and another in late December 2017 (which was stated that it came with improved functions). For the reference, the transmitter from this set received analog audio signal from my Sony AVR via front headphones connection at volume comfortable for listening and sufficient enough to hear all those near-silent audio scenes easily (like distant tree branches noise from wind or distant car traffic noise from highway etc).I would not recommend this product for anyone who likes immersive audio experience when watching tv series or movies or listening to high profile music. There was no point for me to test product’s performance while listening to any music, but I can see that it will fail in the same near silent episodes in any music composition - classical, or rock. Maybe it will work ok for some pop music.
