The Pilgrims' First Thanksgiving

A great simple way to teach a child about Thanksgiving with room to add more info if you want. This is not too long however great explanation of the reality yet not too graphic. My 5 year could sit through this.

The drawings are great and the kids seem to enjoy it.. The sentences are straight forward and probably every page has some good drawings. My 9th great grandfather was on the Mayflower, and the info in the book is pretty good on historical accuracy without all the political retelling that sometimes is associated with this story but isn't really how the people thought about it when it happened. Maybe it was the declarative sentences that made it seem matter of fact instead of grandiose...

Oh for the love of books! MY love of books! We homeschool and books are such a big part of our lifestyle. We have a basket we fill with books depending on the holiday or season. This one on the Pilgrims is a great one and history rich, but just enough so that it is entertaining and fun for the kids to hear. We got this when my daughter was almost 7 and we have loved it. The illustrations are fabulous and seem to take you back to a simpler place in time. This is one you NEED on your bookshelf.

Pretty straight forward. Says people died and got ill but does not show it or dwell on it. I would say this is good for first grade and up.

This book is not for really young kids as it’s paragraphs on each page but would be great for older kids and up! They go into depth of the pilgrim history and give lots of details which is awesome!! It’s valuable knowledge to learn important history like this. Fantastic read for thanksgiving!

It tells an amazing story and I bought it for my class. The got to learn about thanksgiving and the first harvest and hardships the pilgrims endured. Highly recommend.

My seven-year-old granddaughter was asking a lot of questions this past Thanksgiving. I explained to her how the first Thanksgiving came about. She was very interested so I did some research on books and came upon this one. I read the book and thought it was excellent for a child and when she read it, she loved it. She has actually read it several times, it's a keeper. She can pull this book out every year and be reminded of what Thanksgiving is all about.

A very good and complete story of the first Thanksgiving, other books I found had not enough detail, or too much making them boring. This sort was excellent. It uses many basic words kids can read. I was quite happy with this purchase.

Un petit album très sympa pour les enfants et les élèves de primaire ou 6ème et 5ème. Les dessins sont simples et le texte est facile à comprendre et relativement complet sur l'histoire de Thanksgiving (départ sur le Mayflower, traversée et vie des Pèlerins la première année,...).

Not what I expecting. Very flat book with a handful of pages. Was expecting something larger with more about Thanksgiving.
