HiFiMAN HE400se HiFi Headphones for Mobile Use with Stealth Magnet Technology, Silver, Adjustable (packaging may vary)

Got these headphones at an absolute steal of a price at a special limited price of only £69 which at that price it would be damn right rude not to add these to my growing headphone collection. These at that price or in fact any headphone below £150 I would say are the best bargain in HiFi land. Build quality is really not that bad, I have heard lots of negative reviews on the build quality of Hifiman headphones but I do think that was based on earlier models or production runs as they seem to have now got their act together on build quality. The headphones are well built and use of decent enough materials with a mix of metal and plastic. The pads are comfortable and big enough to accomodate my slightly larger than average ears. A mix of soft pleather with a fabric surround as where it touches your head, comfort is very good in my opinion. The cable is decent enough and they have upgraded this cable from earlier 400 models, fitting an aftermarket cable is easy enough as the fittings are standard 3.5mm connectors and you can easily run these balanced too with a cable without breaking the bank. I run these on my Fiio K9 Dac amp on medium gain at around 2pm on the dial and I do listen loud on my 58 year old ears. Sound is extremely clear and present with stonking amounts of smooth treble detail presented. Mids are quite forward but very present and vocals in your face if you like that kind of presentation (not unlike Grado presentation). Bass is very good , definitely not bloated or muddy but it does dig quite deep and has a decent amount of sub bass before rolling off. Soundstage is not huge but definitely bigger than my HD600 but imaging is not so precise as that reference headphone. Imaging is good enough though especially for a headphone at this price point. If you can get this headphone below £100 its a no brainer provided you have a half decent amp to power them, even at their list price now on here at £129 I do think these are stellar value to get into the FUN of Planar Magnetics. Out and out recommendation from me!

Had these headphones for a few days now, I bought them having previously owned the HE400S about 10 years ago which I liked a lot, back then they cost £249, so to find the latest improved version available for just £83 I had to give them a try. I first consulted Audio Science Review online who did an in depth measurements and analysis of them a few years ago, they rated them very highly so I thought I was on safe ground. The headphones are reasonably light weight and don't give any discomfort after prolonged listening sessions, the ear pads are very comfortable and suit the size of my ears, the clamping force is a nice tightness level. Straight out of the box they sound extremely good with very good clarity and a very well balanced sound with no part of the frequency range being overemphasised, for a planar open back design the bass is not as deep as with a closed back headphone but it has good definition and texture if lacking a little slam. I drive them with a WiiM Ultra streaming preamp which has plenty of drive as they are slightly below average sensitivity, the WiiM also has parametric EQ which Is useful to tweak spot frequencies to optimise the sound balance. For the price they're very well made and should last if looked after, some cheap headphones tend to have non removable ear pads, these do, so if down the line they wear out replacements can be obtained. Cable is of good quality and fine for use with my portable music player, at home as I'm about 8ft away from the WiiM I have had to buy an extension cable. For the price and performance they definitely deserve a 5* rating.

These are wonderful cans, very clean delivery for the price, bear in mind though they are only 20-20 khz-hz so don't expect airy detail, but do expect good precision at those frequencies. Easy to drive, work well with low to mid range DACs, on premium DACs you will start to see/hear their limitations so I can't recommend to the ultra connoisseur. For music very enjoyable detailed enough resolve quite fast, bass is not bad can get a bit warbly if you push it too high, but keep the EQ in the lower bass range and it will give you punch back. Open back so soundstage is wide and they can really surprise you when their is some extreme panning going on. Which leads nicely to gaming and films. I watched the entirety of hail Mary with these and it was a sublime experience. They handled the at times extremely complex soundtrack and FX with ease, separating all of the action into easily definable parts, I didn't cry btw, honest....As for gaming you can apply the same traits, great stage, great weight of effects, gunfire, explosions etc, ritual surround is really nice actually, something about that frequency range and virtualization that when on conjunction give a real dome of sound effect. So yeah you can't go far wrong with these.

I'm no audiophile, but I've owned and tried several pairs of budget and mid-range headphones like AKG702, DT990 PRO, HD 660S2, and not been particularly impressed with any of them. I was recommended to try this pair along with the Oratory1990 equaliser preset for them, and my god... it's like I'm hearing music properly for the first time. I wasn't really a fan of EDM before, but these headphones have changed my mind about that genre entirely. It's almost like these headphones were made specifically to listen to 80s/90s trance and techno. I never knew there were a whole range of bass frequencies I wasn't hearing due to other, inferior headphones. People complain about the build quality, and while it could be a lot better, I can't complain about it at this price point. Comfort wise, I've had no problem wearing them for hours at a time. They are decent headphones right out of the box, but certain frequencies peak and can sound a little harsh without a good EQ preset. The preset I recommended lowers the pre-amp and makes the headphones quieter overall, so you will also want a decent USB DAC amp to drive them.

In summary, these are pretty special. For context, the setup I am using for these is a Macbook Pro M3 to a FIIO K11-R2R dac/headphone amp to HE400se (Stealth)... and Tidal as the source These are my first listen to 'Planar's', and my current cans are the FIIO FT1 and Adam Audio H200 - both of which are fantastic Within 10 seconds of hearing the HE400se's I got it. All the planar talk I've heard, the countless YouTube videos I'd watched - it all made sense! I’m genuinely amazed by the HiFiMAN HE400se. The sound is unbelievably clear and fast — you can hear every detail snap into place. The bass hits with real thump, tight and controlled, not boomy. Vocals are crystal clear and lifelike, easily some of the best I’ve heard at any price. The overall presentation feels wide and effortless, with instruments separated beautifully. They make everything — from acoustic to electronic — sound alive and engaging. For this price, it’s honestly crazy how good they are. Highly recommended if you want speed, punch, and stunning vocals in one package. I have no motivation for the next bit, apart from just trying to help you decide... Ignore the reviews about build quality - they are very well made, plenty of weight to them, and very solid. Also those that say the bass is weak - it really is NOT! These are high quality headphones that deliver an absolutely stunning sound, PLUS, at their price stop reading reviews, just buy a pair!

Have a number of all the usual suspects headphones, I wanted to try something different and found these. Bargain price of £62.00 as the box had been opened. Headphones were mint, box had obviously been opened but contents untouched. These headphones are in my opinion the best sub 150 pounds headphones, well made, comfortable and the sound on my Fiio m21 dac is sublime, I'm at peace with the world when listening to my favourite artists with these on my head. Well done HIFI Man for producing a stellar headphone at a ridiculous price.......

I need to preface this review by saying do your research on these headphones and be prepared to send a pair or two back. I bought a pair of these from Amazon which had distortion in the right ear cup at higher volumes at specific frequencies but the second pair was fine. Lots of stories about getting bad drivers on one side on the internet. When you do get a good pair, the HiFiMAN HE400se is absolute bliss. I've used the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro for about 7 years and could not believe how muffled the Beyers sounded in comparison. I was so shocked in fact, I bought new ear cups for the DT990 thinking it must be because of how flattened the foam has become on them. If there's one strength I need to highlight on the HE400se it's the treble. It's not just present, it's fluid and nimble. If it hurts your ears it's either because you're listening at an unsuitable volume or the track makes it that way. That does unfortunately mean these headphones aren't a one size fits all solution, and although the HE400se are superior to the DT990 in many respects, I would consider the DT990 far more of an all in one. These headphones were the first time I truly appreciated vocals and the saxophone. I'd enjoyed it with the DT990 because they're a great headphone, but never really sat in one place listening to a voice or an instrument for hours. Considering the price, for this headphone to do that for me is incredible. The nature of the driver seems to mean that bass doesn't rumble in your ear as much as a dynamic driver loves to do, but do not take this to mean that they lack in bass. This is my first pair of planar headphones and it's different. There's something about planar bass that makes it far more present and accurate but doesn't hit that explosion factor you'd want in a movie for example. If you were to listen to a subwoofer test on these headphones they would shake your eyes out of your eyesockets because that is what was demanded of them, but they are not bassy headphones. I've wound up using these headphones for music and critical listening, but kept the DT990 on the side for fatigue free listening and consuming content such as movies for the explosion factor that dynamic drivers provide. DT990 is better for gaming also if that matters to you. HE400se respond much better to EQ than other headphones I've owned so I'm sure you can tune them to your liking. I use Dolby Access on Windows and a warm EQ can make HE400se suitable for movies by itself. Also bear in mind although these headphones have low impedance, they also have very low sensitivity. My DT990 250Ohm are much easier to drive than the HE400se. My audio interface has 30mW of output which was enough for the DT990 but not for the HE400se. I got a SMSL SH-9 but that's just because I felt like splashing out, you could probably use any old amp like a Douk U3 to power them with no troubles. Happy listening!

Quick bakground: Musicin for 20+ years, producing/mixing professionally for 10+. Planar headphones were supposed to -not- distort, yet left side started to get distorted within 6 months. Most probably a mechanical error. As for low-end, for an open back headphone it's decent (imo slightly more low-end response compared to usual suspects like DT770 etc) but don't expect life changing results. I was planning to use them as "flat" references but I can't say it led me to do more consistent mixes. If you already have a proper mixing headphone you're used to, keep using it, and maybe buy a fresh new pair of it for backup. The amount of time you'll spend to "get used to" this one is not really worth it. If you're mixing rock etc, I understand this can objectively be relevant as it's response curve would be more "in line", and it has very clear mids and high end, but for electronic genres with prominent low end (e.g: dub techno) I can't say it's really the best choice there is since it could be slightly "misleading". I know this falls within the "bargain" line amongst other planar headphones and still I bought this for full pric, but I'm not extremely happy about it. I would definitely grab it on discount though.

Wie so oft: beim Suchen eines Berichts über eine HiFi-Komponente über irgendeinen knackigen Satz zu einem anderen Link gestolpert und drauf geklickt. Zum Glück. "Magnetostat-Kopfhörer für unter 200,-€ - wie ist das möglich?" stand da. Hm, bisschen gelesen, weiter recherchiert und auf nicht ganz so positive Artikel gestoßen. Warum polarisiert das Ding? Im Prinzip geht es beim Hifiman 400se um die Themen Verarbeitungsqualität/Design vs. Klang. Die schlechten Bewertungen bezogen sich in der Regel auf das "altmodische" Design und die "katastrophale" Verarbeitung. Bei der klanglichen Bewertung rückten die Meinungen schon näher zusammen. Aber Lesen bringt einen ja nun nicht weiter, also den Hifiman 400se bestellt. Und als Vergleich (weil ich ja gefühlt 100 Jahre keinen Kopfhörer mehr habe und die Dinger mir auch nie wirklich zugesagt haben) einen sehr gut beleumundeten "dynamischen" beyerdynamic 990 PRO. Beide arbeiten nach dem offenen Prinzip, mit geschlossenen Kopfhörern konnte ich mich überhaupt nicht anfreunden; es fühlt sich an, als höre man unter Wasser Musik. Die Kopfhörer kamen wie bei amazon üblich am nächsten Tag. Der beyerdynamic verfügt über ein fest verbautes Spiralkabel, mit dem man gefühlt durch den ganzen Garten wandern kann, der Hifiman eine lose Beipackstrippe zum Anschluss an die beiden 3,5mm Buchsen für "L" und "R". Allerdings sollte man mit diesem "Kabel" maximal 1m von seiner Anlage entfernt sitzen, mehr gibt die kurze Schnur nicht her. Verarbeitung und Haptik: der beyerdynamic ist da in einer deutlich höheren Klasse, gute Materialien, sauber verarbeitet, fasst sich gut an. Beim Hifiman fallen gleich mal die Schlitzschrauben zur Befestigung der Ohrmuscheln am Bügel auf. Das sieht, sagen wir es mal zurückhaltend, eher "poplich" aus. Aber "katastrophal" ist die Verarbeitung ganz ganz sicher nicht! Und zum Design: der Vorteil bei einem Kopfhörer ist, dass man ihn ja nun mal eher auf dem Kopf trägt und ihn dann eh nicht mehr sieht. Aber "altmodisch" finde ich das Design nun auch nicht. Es ist halt relativ schlicht. Also fangen wir mal mit dem 990 PRO an. Angestöpselt an den Kopfhörerausgang des exzellenten Audio Analogue AADac und los geht's. Schon nach wenigen Takten legt der 990 mit sattem Bass und "spritzigen" Höhen los. Nach einigen Minuten werden aus den "spritzigen" Höhen "nervige"....der Bass tut sein Bestes, "pumpt" mir aber ein bisschen zu viel, als wäre er auf Steroiden....insgesamt ist es aber sicher kein schlechter Hörer. Für mich, der ich eher in der "neutralen" Lautsprecherecke unterwegs bin, ist er aber sicher nicht der Richtige. Nun denn, jetzt der Hifiman: eigentlich höre ich den jetzt immer noch, denn ich mag ihn gar nicht absetzen. Eine CD nach der anderen wandert in den AADrive. "Urk" von den NITS, Anouar Brahem, Kraftwerk, The The....was ist denn hier los? Das hatte ich ganz sicher nicht erwartet. Schon gar nicht zu einem Preis von 129,-€. Wenn mich an einer HiFi-Komponente etwas nervt, dann kann man die schon mal vergessen. Geht gar nicht. Ich will mich auch nicht dran gewöhnen müssen.... Wenn mich an einer HiFi-Komponente rein überhaupt gar nichts nervt, sie ausgewogen spielt, alle Frequenzbereiche ausgewogen zu Gehör bringt, seidige Höhen mit einem knackigen (und nicht zu fetten) Bass kombiniert und dazu Stimmen wunderbar geschmeidig klingen, dann muss der Entwickler dieser HiFi-Komponente vieles richtig gemacht haben. Der Hifiman 400se ist so eine Komponente, prinzipbedingt klingen die großen magnetostatischen Folien mühelos und ausgewogen. Ein dynamischer Kopfhörer hat da (zumindest bei mir) leider das Nachsehen. Das ist eine wunderbare Musikmaschine für den Kopf. Mit dem hier erhältlichen 3m-Kabel ist das Thema Reichweite auch in den Griff zu bekommen. Und da ihr den Hifiman sowieso den ganzen Tag auf dem Kopf habt, müsst ihr ihn nicht ständig ansehen....wobei: so hässlich finde ich ihn eigentlich gar nicht.... Eine dicke Kaufempfehlung!

Ses kalitesi oldukça detaylı daha önce duymadığınız sesleri duyabilirsiniz. Açık kulaklık olduğundan yüksek seste bile kulak ağrısı yapmıyor. Tizler Net bir tık fazla, midler detaylı, vokaller şahane baslar çok düşük ekolayzırla yükseltince tam oldu. PC ve telefon ile denedim güç yetersiz kalıyor. Fiio K11 ile besliyorum sorunsuz çalışıyor.Çok başarılı bir kulaklık.Shure, Rode, Fiio marka kulaklıkları da denedim buna göre ses kalitesinde zayıflar. Tavsiye ederim

Premesso che non sono appassionato di audio e le cuffie le ho acquistate per gaming (FPS), avendone provate diverse come Logitech, Razer, Astro, Audio-Technica, posso affermare di aver trovato il giusto compromesso tra prezzo e prestazioni sonore. Rendono molto durante le sessioni di gaming e consentono di percepire con precisione la posizione degli altri giocatori (se abbinate al giusto software). Anche per l'ascolto di musica sono magnifiche, dal suono abbastanza piatto e dettagliato. Sono cuffie aperte e abbastanza fresche, comode da indossare, forse un po' pesanti. Il cavo è lungo quanto serve per non dover acquistare prolunghe che compensino dal PC al capo dell'utilizzatore. Preciso che per funzionare a dovere necessitano di un amplificatore o DAC audio, ad esempio il Creative Sound Blaster X3 è appena sufficiente e comincia ad infastidire l'udito quasi al 100% del volume. Durante le sessioni di gioco la direzionalità è molto buona e non sento più l'esigenza di cambiare cuffie. Presto avrò modo di testarle con altri due DAC, un Epos Sennheiser GSX-1000 (V1) e un Steelseries Gamedac (non penso riesca). Non fatevi ingannare dall'impedenza dichiarata, per muoverle serve potenza.

As you can see i'm on an exploration mission to find my sound, i just recently entered the Audiophile domain and as such i bought 3 different headphones, these Hifiman headphones are great, their bass response when compared to these 2 other Dynamic driver headphones is absolutely faster and cleaner, if that makes sense. These headphones are the best when at home with a powerful amp/dac since they do require a fair bit of power, i tested them with a BTR5 from Fiio which is a portable Bluetooth HIFI audip amp/dac but i felt it was not powerful enough to get all that i wanted from these headphones, but whn i got home and used a more powerful amp/dac the headphones became a lot better. The Bass is lacking for sure when compared to the other 2 headsets it's up against the philips fidelio x2hr and the beyerdynamics mmx300 but if you have a powerful amp/dac and EQ it then i'm more than confident that the Bass will satisfy any bassheads. Can't really go any deeper since like i said, i'm a newby to the audiophile domain but i can say that i'm keeping these headphones.

Très satisfait de ce casque Hifiman. Même s’il s’agit du modèle d’entrée de gamme, le son est excellent, la conception ouverte apportant une belle scène sonore. Détaillé sans être agressif. Hifiman maîtrise parfaitement la technologie planaire, que j’ai découverte avec ce casque. N’hésitez pas à utiliser un ampli casque dédié pour en tirer le meilleur. L’impédance est basse (32 ohms), mais la sensibilité plutôt moyenne, avec 91db, ce qui est courant avec cette technologie. Un achat que je referais sans hésiter !
