Professional appearance, great quality
I really like the Fisher Space Pen. I already have a Chrome colored one that I use with blue ink and I bought this Titanium one for use with black ink. They work exactly as advertised, writing cleanly when held at any angle including upside down. Both colors are very sharp looking, professional. I have never experienced a leak problem with my chrome one and the ink lasts a long time.

SPACE PEN FOR THE WIN!
These little things are awesome. We have now bought three of them and I will buy more. I first purchased one for my dad for Father's Day. He always has carried a refillable pen in his pocket. ALWAYS. And don't buy him a shirt without a pocket, as he won't wear it. He needs that pocket for his trusty pen! I read about these space pens online and thought the functionality of being able to write at any angle or temperature would appeal to him. So I ordered one for him, and he loves it! I vowed then that everyone I know should eventually own one of these pens. Since then, my husband and I each gave one to each other for Christmas, without knowing we were doing it! The pen is designed beautifully. It is a nice stainless steel and comes in a heavy plastic case. It comes with black ink, which none of three of us that have it prefer, but the refills come in all different colors (I have green in mine!). The pen writes like a ballpoint - you need a decent amount of pressure and friction to make a mark. Love the size and weight of the pen - small enough to fit in a shirt pocket or a purse, but weighty enough to know you are holding something special. It is probably a bit thinner than I am used to for a pen, as I am regularly use Pilot G2s and they have the little rubber grip that makes them a bit thicker. That being said, I actually think the slimness of the space pen is a plus. It has some nice grooves on it for your fingers to grip. The click and return is very satisfying, a solid click and a separate return button so you know that once you click the top, it is ready to go. I have used my pen in all kinds of situations - cold temps, writing at odd angles, etc. And it does all of those things very well. My only complaint would be the amount of pressure that you need to move it, which is just a byproduct of the type of pen it is. So while it will write at odd angles and not stop working or get weird like other pens, you definitely need to be able to put pressure at whatever angle you are using it. But I love that I can take it anywhere and it will always work. Also, no more having to do those little circles in the corner of the page to get the juices flowing - this pen is always ready to write. I wish they were cheaper so I could leave one in the car, one at my desk, one in my purse, one on my bedside table, etc, etc. But they cost what they do because they are beautiful little feats of engineering. Get one for everyone that you know - they will love it.

a negative review would be like comparing apples to oranges
*(Info on spring issue below) 1st of all, if you never used any type of Fisher Space Pen, a negative review would be like comparing apples to oranges, Fisher to other brands. That said, I have only used fisher bullet pens for the past 15 years or so. Love their quality and performance but lost a few from my pants pocket until I came up with a 'system' (bullet pen sheath). This pen, the Original Astronaut Space Pen' (AG7). Inside: uses the same ink cartridge as my bullets. Outside and mechanics: When I put the cap on the bullet pen and hold it side by side with this one, they sort of look alike, in length and how they taper to the point unlike the newer Fisher Shuttle Space Pen which does not taper. Some people like that but I prefer the taper. The AG7 is a 'plain' pen. The chrome is a nice touch, it writes like a Fisher space pen should and, perhaps it's a bit on the light side but it has enough weight for me. The price is what it is, can't compare it to other brands because it has that Fisher 'uniqueness' factor. So, with the correct spring, 5 stars but as sold with the weak spring, 2-3 stars. See following. *So, WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT? First, understand that it has a 'different' point load and release mechanism than many similar pens. I like that it has a side release button. But, as many reviewers have mentioned, the spring point load and release spring is too weak. The one I purchased 'had' this issue. I read many reviews and learned that there was a different and stronger spring originally and fisher decided weak is better. Maybe for the astronauts, but not here on earth where you could load the ink point with a flick of the wrist or in your pocket. I doubt that if you decided to take your chances on getting the original spring, YOU WILL NOT. I saw that another reviewer had called Fisher directly and after a little hassle, they sent a new 'barrel' with the 'original spring'. They have them sitting around and obviously know of the issue. I did the same, my pen is now PERFECT, the spring is strong, just right. (They send a new barrel because they say it is difficult to remove and install a new spring.) Another easier fix is to add a 2nd spring from another pen to the current barrel, one that fits. I tried it and it worked too. But hey, since Fisher sent me a new one, why not?

Excellent build quality
After my Rite in the Rain pen stopped clicking because it was almost completely plastic and the mechanism had worn down I needed to find a more permanent solution. I prefer a pressurized cartridge and click style when it comes to pens, so I did a little research and stumbled upon the Fisher brand. My search was for completely metal pen's so no malleable and weak plastic. I found the AG7. I'm not a chrome type of person so when I found the black titanium nitride version I knew I had found the perfect pen. Nothing beats the weight, color, style, and feel of this pen, even the click mechanism feels so much different than your normal click pen, in a good way. This pen is definitely worth the extra money if you're not the kind of person to lose small items like this. Honestly, it's been my daily driver since having it, and I plan on keeping it that way. I have had no issues since owning it but have read reviews of the pen eventually falling apart, glue or something separating. I haven't owned it long enough to see if that's still an issue. Be careful ordering it from Amazon as the seller, I received the normal AG7 (chrome), not the AG7-BTN (black titanium nitride). The chrome AG7 sells for about $35 so you can see my dismay when I opened my package to stumble upon the wrong item. Oddly enough it was in a box with a sticker stating it was the BTN version so I assume someone had swapped it out and I was the unlucky one who had received it. Although the pen was in good condition, paying roughly $80 for a pen the manufacturer and Amazon generally sells for $35 is not what my intentions were. I returned the item and cancelled my replacement and decided to purchase from Altman Luggage here on Amazon. The item was shipped fast and arrived earlier than Amazon expected it to.

Spring time.
First off, I purchased the Fisher Bullet and the AG-7 at the same time. After reading all the poaitive reviews spread throughout the web, the plan was to carry the Bullet, and use the AG-7 at the office. They were both delivered within the 2 days for prime members and I immediately inpsected these marvels. First reactions. AG-7, felt really loose at the clicker. I thought that if I shook the pen hard enough, it would engage the clicker and the point would be exposed. Once engaged, the medium point is huge. I feel like I'm writing with a marker. The fine point tips are ordered and on the way! After disassembling the pen numerous times, trying to think of a way to make the pen more "solid", I simply tried a few different springs from a few different clickers and found a good match the barrel of the Fisher. You can't pull the factory spring out (which bothers me), but you can semmingly put another spring in the barrel. Problem solved. The clicker now has some substantial beef behind it and there is no play in the pen. I feel like I effectively doubled the amount of pressure it takes to click the pen. The pen now feels 100% solid in my hand. Bullet: Awesome...I have large hands and after moving the cap to the rear of the pen, it is an excellent writing instrument. Can't wait to get the fine point cartridges for the Bullet and AG-7. I bought the matte black version and I'm very pleased. Feels solid, collapses to a great pocket size, and writes wonderfully. Can't ask for much more. Although, I did buy the version with the clip already "installed". It fell off the first time I tried to clip it to something. Tried to put it back on the pen, but ended up scratching the pen and didn't feel like it was secure, so I took it off. Save your money, get the bullet without the clip. I'm glad to have both, but if I had to pick one, I'd probably pick the bullet over the AG-7. Price, versatility, and the ability to throw it in a pair of jeans and not worry about ink stains or stabbing my leg all point towards the Bullet.

Great Pen
I got the Fisher Space Pen for a few reasons: 1. It's an all metal pen (I like metal pens for some reason...) 2. It's said to write underwater, upside down, and in space. (I don't NEED a pen to do these things, but now I can if I want to.) 3. It's the original pen used by NASA on the Appollo missions, the shuttle missions, and the ISS. Reason number three is what really made me buy the pen. I was happy enough with my Zebra F-701 for a regular pen, but I love history, so I got the Fisher. After writing with it for a few days I'm really happy with it. I was a little worried as some of the existing reviews complained about the balance point, steep taper, and lack of grip. In my opinion, none of these are issues. The pen is slightly top-heavy, but if you hold your pen correctly (I know, there's some debate about that...) the top of the pen is resting in the area between your thumb and finger and it doesn't go anywhere. I don't really notice the taper, and the grip seems to be enough for me. The knurling isn't as heavy and "sticky" as on the Zebra F-701, but I haven't had any problems hanging onto the pen. One thing that might be an issue for some people, is that this is a thin pen. I was a little worried about this. I like thin pens, and from some of the pictures on the internet, it looked a little thicker than it is. I haven't got out the calipers to check, but this feels to be about the same diameter as your average BIC. The pen seems to write very smoothly, and I haven't noticed any clumping that was mentioned in some other reviews. I should mention that, if the pen does clump, the reason that I haven't noticed it that my main source of pens is cheap ballpoints that people give away with their logo on it. (My preferred pen before getting my Zebra F-701 was the BIC Clik Stick.) I've only written upside down with the pen a little bit, as this is fairly uncomfortable, but it performs well. I did test to see if it writes underwater. I tore a sheet out of one of my sample Rite in the Rain notebooks, and wrote on it well the faucet was pouring full blast on the paper. No problem. Next, I soaked the sheet in water, and the pen still wrote fine. The ink does tend to bleed a little if you let the paper soak in water overnight, but it's still legible. (and oddly, the black ink turns blue after a good long bath...) No problems at all if you write in water (or write on dry paper, then get it wet) then take the paper out of water and shake it off. Bleeding only seems to occur if you let the paper soak. (I don't see this as a problem for most of us.

This should be the first spacepen in your soon-to-be collection
This pen is great. I use a pen constantly during my work, estimating and adjusting homes. I draw often, and also write and fill out a lot of forms and notes for homeowners. I think using a nice pen is great for improving my attitude and experience at work, and I believe it also helps if you are trying to get someone to sign either a contract or a check. Having a nice pen sitting there makes a difference. Anyway, I have quite a few spacepens, including the AG-7, this CH-4, a few of the bullet pens, and a couple cap-o-matics as well. I do not have experience with either the MARS or Millenium II, because they look uncomfortably thick to hold. I'm going to start with what I think is the CH-4's main competitor... The AG-7 is a great pen, I think you should own one. The only problem, is that during extended use the pen begins to feel a bit top-heavy because of the taper and the thickness. The pen's weight is a great quality, but if it's hot and your hand is sweating, the grooves can be insufficient for easy gripping. I think the mechanism makes up a significant portion of the weight. The clicks are smooth and satisfying - I find myself clicking it while I am not writing, but just walking and holding the pen. The CH-4 is a fantastic pen! You need to own one. There is no problem with this pen. After using and loving the AG-7 for months, I tried the CH-4 because of the cooler pen-clip imprint (SPACE w/orbit logo, contrasted with AG-7). The barrel of the pen is straight and only begins to taper at the proper point. The pen itself is still pleasantly heavy, and the mechanism is very satisfying as well. It does lack some of the click down pressure, compared to what is required with the AG-7, as well as some of the release power. This small deterioration in mechanism potency (I surmise 15%) is a small concession to make. The bullet pens are nice for pockets, and the cap-o-matics are ok - but a little light-weight for my taste, and more suited for purses. I suggest owning a few different styled spacepens if you need multiple colors while working, as I do. I can grab my AG-7 to do red corrections, my turquoise pocket bullet for notes, and my trusty and irreplaceable CH-4 in black for the bulk of the work. I also bought one for my Dad for father's day with engraving (order from the real site to get the best, it costs more - but it's official) Happy writing!
