I've had this now for about 8 months. I followed the recommendation of other reviews and bought a drain extension to make changing the oil easier and cleaner. I installed this before I filled it with oil the first time. Ideally you should buy this before you need it and break it in properly following the directions in the included manual as you keep it below 50% power and vary the load. Upon the recommendation of another friend I changed the oil multiple times during that break in period. I found lots of metal fragments in the oil each time I changed it during the break in. Once I was happy with how the oil looked coming out I stopped changing the oil. It ended up being something like 8 times. Maybe overkill, but I want to help the motor as much as I can for longevity. It's primary function for us will be a backup generator for when we lose power. As such, I only intend on using the propane function so I don't have to worry about fuel going bad. I've only done the break along with the additional oil changes so I have around 18 hours on it. I didn't even use a full 20lb propane tank. That wasn't a full service load either, but I was still happy with the fuel consumption amount. I like that the noise increases and decreases with the load and that it isn't just this constant steady loud noise. It's very portable with the wheels and handle and makes it easier to get in and out of the garage. It's a bit heavy if you were needing to lift this up (into a pickup or up and down stairs) but not out of the question. This unit about the right size for us offering the power we need for outages. I like that it has different types of receptacles to charge and power a variety of things. While costing more than other standard generators its a good value for an inverter generator. The included FOB worked great and I was able to remote start the generator from inside the house. During inclement weather this would be a big plus. I can't really think of any cons except for maybe access to the oil drain/fill. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and it will pay for itself after the first multi-day outage we have by not having to throw away our perishables in the fridges and freezer. Time will tell on longevity, but so far so good.

Knowing advantaged technology has improved efficiency of generator operations, weather has not followed suit. Many people have paid thousands for a whole house back-up system, typically needed for a week of power outage per year. The longest for us, here in MI has been 4 days. Since we have NG for our furnace, hot water heater and fireplace gas log, when power was out, we'd only need back-up power for our furnace fan, refrigerator, freezer and one family room outlet. I installed 4 separate remodel outlet boxes for each location (furnace, frig, freezer and FamRm outlet) with a wire to our laundry room thru our crawlspace, installed one small breaker box with (4) 15 amp breakers and supplied power to the breaker box from a new inverter generator. When power went out, all I had to do was unplug each power cord from existing outlet and plug into a new remodel outlet, which was independent from the house power. Then, I'd turn on the power switch to my new Westinghouse iGen4500DF inverter generator outside the house, walk back into my house and push the remote button to start 4500DF inverter. Keep in mind, I didn't have to turn off the house power from the grid. When power grid would come back on, then I'd switch the power cords back. As a builder, it was easy to install to install (4) new outlet boxes, outlet plugs, wire to our laundry room, (4) 15 amp breakers, one new small breaker box and one new supply line from a new inverter. Any electrician can do it for anyone who doesn't like electrical work. It's easy to pull an electrical permit, get the work done, get it inspected, approved and keep the approved permit in your records. Our new "Westinghouse iGen4500DF inverter generator" weighs just 104 lbs., noise level is 50% quieter when it supplies power as needed, yet stays on idling, runs off gasoline or propane (I prefer propane because is is cleaner with no spilled gas to wipe up, turning on and off our inverter from inside your house, all are the options I wanted!! I'm currently building a small cabin in the woods. My new iGen4500DF makes it quiet, lighter to move, takes less time to set up, cleaner using LPG and remote on & off fab switch was a right decision I made! When I placed the order thru Amazon, it arrived ahead of schedule this past December, 2021, it took 32 minutes to set-up at a cost of $938.00. I added $224.00 in electrical components, propane and left over wire from past projects. A stand alone whole house back up system costs several thousand vs. less than $1,200.00. I made the right decision!

The preparation prior to starting the generator were very well written and concise. They anticipate any issues and cover them in these directions, I would imagine from past customers who could not or would not read the directions. I did have to charge the battery before it would start the first time, not a surprise or issue. i simply plugged in the adaptor and left it to charge for several hours, sorry I did not time it. Once it had a sufficient charge it cranked over a couple of times and fired right up. I started it the next day as part of the break in process and it started second crank. I did try and run my compressor on it and it tripped the breaker, the reason, a insufficient extension cord between the compressor and generator. The generator tripped its breaker, recognizing the issue. Once I plugged the compressor right into the generator it ran just fine. The air compressor was certainly alot louder than the generator even under load. I am going to continue the break in period, but so far I like the generator. The integrated handle is great for moving it around, I will just reiterate read the instructions and the manual, it could really save you some headaches. I shouldn't have to tell you to do this, but I realize guys are buying this and a few of them will skip that part. I love the remote, it started and stopped every time. It works like a charm. It is also very quiet, like any piece of equipment it seems loud when you are right next to it, but walk away 75 feet or so and you really cannot hear it. I am very pleased with the quality. I have forgot to switch it to off after use because of the remote and had to pull start it. Not a big deal. After 6 months, I still like it.

I will start with the best first as they out weigh the few complaints I have. The generator came in perfect condition (more a credit to the shipping then the manufacturer) right out of the box all you need to do is add oil, attach the battery, and add a fuel source. The oil in included in the shipping box. I hooded it up to propane with the included attachment for propane tanks. Very easy and most of all what I like is no mess with gasoline. On the subject of gasoline, a nice feature I like is the rubber protector spill mat around the gasoline fill area. (see attached photo) It snaps into place with molded inserts for ease of removal for cleaning if you do spill any gasoline. It will also protect the plastic from discoloration or damaged from accidental spills. After hooking up the battery, propane and filling the oil it started quickly and ran perfectly. I followed the instructions for proper break-in operation 10 hours with minimal load. I ran a battery charger. Over all I could hardly be any happier with this unit. It is very quiet runs everything smoth and fuel usage is low. I haven't done a scientific test on fuel usage yet because I am not able to at this time. But I can attest that if under a constant load and under 50% it is better then I had expected, I can roughly say 12 to 15 hours run time on 20lb propane tank seems to be accurate. I like the remote start as long as you have a way to keep the battery charging when the generator is not in use. If you are using for an RV be warned. You have to have the switch for power turned on in order for the remote start to function. This will drain the battery if left on for an extended period like over night. So if you wake up in the morning to brew coffee the remote start may not work and neither will the electric start, You will have to use the pull start. This issue can be bypassed if you plug in to a inverter on battery backup to maintain the battery on the generator. Just a small issue. The wheels are better than I expected being made with a foam core not just hard plastic, and the roles over ¾in gravel with only a little dragging. Though I don't think it could go over much more without issues. I very much like the extending handle and over all moving it around on the ground is a breeze. Now as far as lifting it's still a 100lb unit and even for myself being in great physical condition, I wouldn't want to lift is alone anymore then I had to. It's just the overall size is not easy to move by oneself. Now my complaints. #1 Oil filling and draining. We all know the best way to care for a machine is to change the oil often. You really can't over charge it. With that in mind it's baffling the designers never seem to think about making this an easy and clean task.. I have now doubt I will have to make some motivation so the oil will actually run out the hole in the bottom plastic housing tray. Same for filling the oil. One has to use the included funnel and I do thank them for making and including that. But is is hardly down hill to get the oil to run into the engine. Even after the task is completed, you will be left with an oily funnel to try to store some place it will stay clean until next oil change. Again I would have liked to see more though go into both this and the draining. Best advice I can give is have shop towels under neath, ready to catch the inevitable spilled oil. #2 Security!! the unfortunate truth is unless you have inside your garage, where it can't be used. Or inside something else aka a van, (where it also can't be used), there is no good way to secure the generator. For most people this would seem to be a major issue, whether it's in the back of a pickup or on a reserver hitch cargo area like I use it, There needs to be a better way to secure the unit. I am disappointed that such a major oversight exists on an item like this. I would have expected dedicated bolt down points for permanent mounting. You definitely can run a chain through the handles if you don't mind the rash and other damage bound to happen and I am not confident this would be a great solution. If you're like me and injoy you stuff to look nice, the thought of chains scuffing the outer plastic of your brand new 1000 dollar perches then you will have to get more creative. There are 4 studs on the bottom with coupler nuts can be a anchor point, that are sturdy enough. (moter mounts) but you will have to be the one to figure out how to turn that into a fastener point because the designers didn't. I find that a big mark down but I haven't seen this fixed on any other units so it's not like we have a better option. #3 high altitude. I am disappointed the generator doesn't come with the parts for it to run correctly at altitude. It wouldn't be anything big for them to just include the correct jet for the carburetor. The added hassle to have to track down the needed parts, added expense is just a pain. so if your using over 2000ft be prepared, plan ahead and get your parts ordered. #4 I only have about 20 hours on my gen. So ATM 08/15/22 I can't speak to the reliable but I will update this review with any relevant information. Overall I recommend this generator inverter over others I have experience with in the same price range. It's not perfect but I think there's some good value added with the included propane hook up equipment and nice extras like the way the wheels and retractable suit handle work.

Purchased this generator to take camping at our favorite KOA but the only spots left for Halloween were the ones with no power hook-ups. All I can say is that I'm super impressed by this generator. Super quite! I even had a neighbor come by and comment on how quite it is and he mentioned he also wanted to buy one. While camping, I had a group of my friends come by my campsite to go Mtn bike riding, and they all mentioned similar sentiments in terms of how quite this thing is. You can site there and talk to your friends and family with it running just a few feet away and it's not going to force you to talk loud or yell to interact with people around you. You can just talk at a normal volume and people can hear you just fine. That's impressive to me because I'm not a loud talker in general. I tend to be more laidback and talk at a lower tone. So, people being able to hear me over the generator is really awesome and impressive. I highly recommend this generator for the following reasons. 1. Super quite 2. Duel Fuel - lets you use propane over gas which doesn't have that gas exhaust smell and easier to burnoff the residual gas when shutting it down 3. Easy to start - This model has the remote start which makes it perfect for those cold mornings when stepping out of the trailer is not ideal. Or shutting it down at night when you're already in the trailer with your shoes off. Also, the button on the generator is just as easy. You push it once and it turns over until it starts. No messing with choke and all that give. 4. Weight - The generator is fairly lightweight for what it is. I was able to pick it up and put it in my truck without help. However, it did have an empty gas tank as I used with propane and not gasoline. 5. Fuel economy - I ran the generator from 6am to 10pm at night at a low to medium load on one tank of propane. 16 hrs of running my 30ft trailer with two refrigerators, coffee maker, TVs, lights, and fans. Only time the RPMs came up was when I used the Keurig type coffee maker in the morning. 6. Easy to move - With the retractable handle and wheels this thing is super easy to move around the campsite, even if it's all dirt. The only thing I'd want people to be mindful of is adding the oil when you set it up for the first time. My unit had a good amount of oil in it from the factory already so when I dumped the provided oil in with the included oil funnel I over filled it. IF... I would have read the instructions I would have noticed the comments saying "Don't overfill" the unit may have some oil in it already. Pour a little at a time until you can see it at the opening of the oil fill hole. Don't get all excited like I did and just pour the whole thing of oil as fast as you can. Hopefully I save a few of you the pain of cleaning oil off your garage floor or driveway. Other good option would be to drain the leftover factory oil out the drain and refill with the provided oil.

The delivery was right on time, the box was over 100lbs so it took two people to bring it up our steps (and inside the house, thank you Amazon delivery workers!) but it was in pristine condition when it arrived. Out of the box the generator is exactly as described, it's heavy but the handle and wheels make it easy to transport and the grab bars allow two people to easily lift it into the bed of my truck. Have not hooked it up to our camper yet but so far it seems to be an excellent value for the money. So, after getting it set up (very easy although I would recommend tilting it on it's side to add the oil since mine spilled out a bit) I hooked it up to a propane tank and pulled the starter lanyard... It took three pulls to get the gas flowing but it started right up and I was extremely pleased with how quiet it is! You can have a normal conversation standing right next to it without difficulty...I walked a half a block away and couldn't hear it at all so... Better than expected in that department. I hooked up a couple of portable heaters to test the output and check the engines ability to adapt to power draws and it performed perfectly. It recommends not to exceed 50% of output capacity during the first 5 hours of operation which...I accidentally ran it at 75% briefly but the motor handled it without issue. All in all I couldn't be more pleased... Seems to be a fine product and is exactly what we needed...now to take it out in the woods!

I purchased this back in February 2023 it has 1486 hours without a hiccup in the motor and the generator part. The only thing that was defective was the regulator it blew off a whole tank of propane cost me 10 gallons or whatever minus what I used but I had shut it off and smelled propane and went out to shut it off and propane was blowing out the regulator, and it only sat for 10 minutes. I was not very happy with customer service over the attitude of the service guy. I told him the regulator was at fault. He argued with me that it was left on for 10 minutes. I leave my regulators on my RV I’ve continually run my refrigerator stall and everything else anyway regardless they replaced the whole regulator system and hose but other than that I’m very happy with the machine it’s very quiet. It seems to get very good fuel consumption. I have never seen how many hours I get per gallon or averaged it per propane I’ve run both , it seems to me it gets better on gasoline then propane propane is a dollar cheaper. This will run my air conditioner a Coleman 1500 Mach it starts at no problem. I can run my icemaker and battery chargers and still be able to start and stop the air-conditioning as per the thermostat with no problem without going over voltage so for the hours that it’s been running I’m very pleased with his performance I use about 40 to 50 gallons of propane a week I’m planning to buy another one of these and link them together if I remember correctly, it is capable of doing that with the box of the jumper cable or whatever you use I can’t remember what it’s called now I just went blank but anyway I’ll talk to you much. Out of the box and setup running in under 15 minutes. Came with oil, battery and adapter hoses for the propane (if you decide to run it on propane). All that was needed is gasoline - 87 octane is what it calls for. It has covers for the battery, air filter, and oil which makes it easy to get to for servicing it. Once I added the oil and the fuel, it was ready to go and fired right up to a nice and smooth quiet idle using the included remote control. I absolutely love the remote, as it makes it easy to start and stop from inside the trailer. Very impressed! I then hooked it up to the travel trailer, fired up the AC and microwave and everything works exactly as you'd expect. I would highly recommend that if you are using it on a travel trailer to check the owners manual to see what size of appliances you have and type of cord that it requires 30amp vs. 50amp, etc. If your trailer is newer, check the plug end to make sure it'll work otherwise you may need an adapter for the cord. It worked without any adapters for mine and I couldn't be happier with this investment. Even more important, is that it's quiet when running and it looks nice. It feels like a high quality well built machine and I'd absolutely recommend it. Obviously, I just got it but with the warranty and how well it has ran so far from the first start all the way to where I am now with several starts and several hours run time, I really do not anticipate any issues with it. It seems that Westinghouse has made a great product and they've backed it up with a warranty that gives peace of mind knowing that if I follow maintenance requirements for it that it would likely be covered. Also, I love that it's dual fuel with the option to run on propane. Propane runs cleaner which means longer term lower maintenance and better for the machine. I plan to run both, fuel in the summer time when making trips and in the fall switch over to run on propane so that it doesn't sit in the winter with fuel. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this machine, I'm very impressed and would absolutely recommend it.

This unit is easy to start all three ways and runs on both fuels good. I haven't tried it loaded right up yet, but will soon.
