Lydia Courteille

I didn’t know much about this jeweler when I ordered this book. After reading the hype, I expected her to be among the greatest, current European jewelers. After examining the book, I’d have to classify her as a second rate jeweler who occasionally creates an inspired piece. Much of her jewelry is crudely designed and executed and resembles costume jewelry. The green turquoise used in many of her pieces is not natural gem grade – it appears to be dyed, stabilized and some of it even looks like reconstituted turquoise molded to look like it’s carved!Ms. Courteille mentions Lalique as an inspiration and influence yet her best jewelry doesn’t come close to Lalique’s most humble and basic pieces. The book is printed in China on paper that is not top grade. If you want a magazine quality book with colorful and sometimes interesting jewelry it’s worth $20. It’s absolutely not worth $40.

I stumbled upon this book and this designer. Wow. Amazing, amazing jewelry - works of art, really. I have shown this book to others who have the same awed reaction I do. Obviously, not every piece is going to appeal to everyone, and I am no exception. But the designs are fascinating, the construction of the pieces is intriguing (how she created the delicate spider's web necklace is a wonder), and the use of gems and stones is exciting.If you love jewelry I think you will be fascinated by this artist's work. And the photography is beautiful; the text interesting.

Great jewelry, full of interesting anecdotes.

This is a fantastic book for any accessories designer or enthusiast. The images are life like and very detailed i have started drawing (works in progress) them as part of my inspiration board. I must hasten to say i am teaching myself design illustration and have never had lessons. I am sorry if my drawings are a joke but ive only been doing it for 3 months 😍

Beautifully produced book on the extraordinary jewellery designed by Courteille.There is page after page of brilliant creations. Baroque excess, valuable gems and creative genius.The book flows chronologically and the writing is accurate.Very inspiring!
