Cardinal Gates Outdoor Child Safety Gate, Brown

I was looking for a good-quality, sturdy gate for the top of our deck steps. This one is perfect for the job! It was important to me that the gate swing 180 degrees so it can be positioned flat against the deck railing when we don't need it to be closed. It is also rated to be OK to use at the top of stairs which is essential for safety for this application. The mechanism to latch the gate is unusual and a touch counter-intuitive - you need to push the two latch tabs down and then lift the gate up while holding the tabs. It's really easy to do with one hand though, once you know how it works. This will be great when my little grandson starts walking - he won't easily be able to figure out how it opens. The photos show the gate closed, and then open against the deck railing. The gate is hardly noticeable when it's open. I installed it by myself (mechanically inclined 61-year-old woman) with no problem. I just followed the installation instructions exactly as written.

This is a very good gate. Heavy duty, with stainless hardware. I just installed it last week, so time will tell if it holds up to the test of weather and time. When closed, I'm surprised at how rock-solid it is. I can't even shake it with my hand.The instructions should add the pointer to install the hinge in the center of the door jamb on one side, and then to offset the latch on the other door jamb by the width of the gate sections, because the adjustable nature of the gate makes one side of the gate ride alongside the other, and it can look a little "off" to the OCD-esque when the gate sort of angles across the span.If the gate were straight, it would look like =========================But the offset nature of the gate looks like ===============================

I really like this gate, very much. My friend installed it for me, and he was done with it in less than 30 min. Arrived when it was said to be here, looks great, it is brown and matches our deck. It is very secure, stable, but I have a problem with the latch. It is very secure, but EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE LATCH!!! IT STICKS, AND IT IS ALMOST PAINFUL TO PUSH DOWN ON THE HOOKS TO OPEN IT!All the adults here, 4 of us, have complained about this latch already, and it is up only 1 week thus far.I will keep the gate, because it is secure, and would recommend buying it to others. Just be warned that this not a easy opening gate AT ALL, CAN NOT DO THIS WITH ONE HAND AT ALL! HAVE TO USE TWO HANDS, AND LOTS OF PRESSURE ON THE LATCH.Yes, for those who would ask if we have stainless steel hardware, we do, and we have applied WD-40 as well to help it open better....no luck with that! Still a very good gate!

The. Best. Gate. Ever!Honestly this is the best baby gate I’ve ever bought. Installation was pretty straightforward, I was able to do it alone with only a two year old and infant “helping”. Once it was installed, I realized why it was a little more expensive than some other gates - this thing looks like it will last until I have grandkids! Looks great, very sturdy, easy enough for older kids and adults to open (my five- and seven-year-olds can open it themselves, but not my toddler). Definitely worth every penny.

I've owned 4 of these gates over the years and find them to be extremely well made and sturdy. I recently purchased an outdoors gate with an extension. My only complaints are that they are 2 different shades of brown. The extension is more of an army green tinged brown😕 Also, they have changed the latch. I really liked the old latch because it locked automatically when closed without any lifting. Bring back the old latch!

This gate is very simple to install - best instructions of four baby gates I've installed, and the video on the Cardinal Gates website is really thorough. The gate is solid, and can be installed at an angle of up to 30 degrees. I'm really glad we chose this gate - great peace of mind and I just installed it and I'm not frustrated at all - can't say that for the other, different gates we've installed recently!

We needed a gate for our deck to keep our toddler from tying to go down the stairs constantly and this one has been perfect. We've been using it for several months now and the quality has been great. It was easy to install and the width is adjustable to fit the opening. It swings open smoothly and the latch is easy for coming and going. Also weatherproof! Very happy with this purchase.
