Water Brush Pens for Watercolor, Set of 6, 3 Fine and 3 Broad Tips

I really enjoy painting with watercolor but it is kind of a pain to get everything out and full cups of water and sit at a table. I discovered watercolor pencils recently which made it possible to sketch my image while lounging on the couch but I still had to sit at a table with the cups of water once it was time to turn the pencil sketch into a watercolor painting. Then I came upon these Arteza Water Brush Pens and oh wow what a game changer. I can sit back on the couch now and using only my watercolor pencils and these water brushes complete my project. I actually find these easier than using a traditional brush because I always have a hard time controlling the amount of water on my brush. These brush pens distribute the right amount of water and if I am not sure I just do a practice squeeze on my hand to check. The water well holds enough water to cover hours of work. I didn't even read the instructions on how to fill them because they were so simple. Just open, fill, screw back on the cap and done. When I am ready to change colors I just pump out a couple of drops of water and wipe the brush on a little rag I keep next to me. Because the water distribution is so even I don't have problems of constantly needing to dab extra water off the paper because it pools. The brushes put out enough water to fully blend each small section enough that pencil lines are no longer visible. The size of the brushes are perfect and have just enough stiffness. They come in both round and flat. I really love these and highly recommend them to anyone using watercolor pencils. I haven't yet tried them with other forms of watercolor so I can't say how they would do but I could imagine they would work well. Totally would buy these again although they are made well so I doubt I will need to any time soon.

I've begun to see these types of brushes used a lot in illustration, but really thought they were good "in a pinch", while traveling. Well, I just took an online watercolor class and the first thing the instructor did was post up a supplies list that had these tops of the list! I was a little surprised, but thought, what the heck. Maybe it's time to give these a try. I did a line drawing from a travel photo I had first (using a waterproof micro pen), then loaded up all of the water brushes with water and began painting. Although there are six water brushes included in this set, I really only ended up using about three of them. I found the slightly smaller flat brush, medium round brush, and very small round brush ended up doing the trick for the bulk of the work. If I were traveling, I could have done it with the two round brushes. The brushes worked very well and I'm pretty darn impressed. I saw someone else's comment about too much water coming out when you push the button, which can happen, but just like he suggested, you can open it up and put a small ball of cotton over the tube leading to the brush, which should slow the flow of water. Other than that, I would say these brushes are a very good value. The painting above was only just started with the brushes, but it looks pretty darn good now that I've finished!

Love these! I've used other water brushes that are cheaper and they would just constantly drip water if you had any pressure at all while holding them. These are very good at controlling the water drips because they have a specific button to use to allow the drips. PERFECT for plein air watercolor painting, I'm excited to use them more! (I will say, mine stained after one use but that's as I expected since most white bristles don't stay white no matter how well you clean them)

I've been working with this set for a few months now and concluded that these are great for casual watercolor enthusiasts. I've tried Pentel waterbrush in the past and basically left it collecting dust after the first try because it was either leaking or not moving enough water into the tip. Arteza brushes were a world of difference and completely changed my take on water brushes. There is no catastrophic leaking episodes whats so ever and water control is generally good. I now love working with water brushes because of their portability and convenience. They are my go-to when I'm not working on a serious piece. There is still innate problem with all water brushes in that it will dilute your color the longer you use it to mix paint because of the natural slow diffusion of water onto your mixing palette. However, the dilution is minimal unless you are mixing a lot of paint over a long period of time. It hasn't gotten to the point where it really bothered me, but I've only used the set mostly for sketching and smaller art pieces.

I love to watercolor and these pens are my go-to brushes when I want to sit on the bed and paint OR drive to a pretty area in town and paint. The pen holds a small amount of water, but enough to get a small picture done. I would carry as many of these brushes around with me if I want to be able to paint as much as I want OR carry a bottle of water just in case. Personally, I love how easy to use these brushes are! The buttons on the side of the brushes help to release the water in appropriate amounts. If you press lightly you will get less, and if you push both buttons you will get more. This is extremely helpful in my opinion. This wide variety of brushes has answered my need for a sturdy, trustworthy and consistent brush set. One word of caution: try not to tighten the top too tightly. One of my favorite sizes is stuck with the lid on because I added water and put the top on too tightly. That's what I get for being in a rush.

I wanted to like these because they have the push button feature instead of the squeeze bulb - but as many other reviews mentioned, the water control with these is not great. One of my brushes leaks incredibly easy because the bristles aren’t flush against its tube. It’s unusable, really. The bristle material is also sub par, doesn’t hold pigment well, and doesn’t have good delivery onto paper. The large flat brushes perform oddly, especially, but could be easily manipulated for doing washes across a larger space. I have an Artistro water brush that performs way better than any of these Arteza ones. And while I commend others’ idea to use cotton in the barrel for better control, I personally believe if you have to fix a product for it to work, it’s not a good product. I wish I hadn’t wasted the money, if I’m honest. If you’re a seasoned artist seeking good quality water pens, just skip these. Stick with Pentel.

Love love love these!! The water flow is smooth and easy to control. They don't leak and work great for traveling. The different sizes are awesome for getting different details/textures in the paintings. I had never used water brush pens before and now I don't think I can go back to regular brushes! I plan to bring them hiking with me so I can paint while out in nature. I can't wait!
