Does this work on medium length hair?

So this was the second one of these automatic winding wands that I purchased.  I loved the concept of these and the first one (not this one) worked well enough but I didn’t feel like it pulled the hair with enough tension. It resulted in only loosely wrapping around the batrel, causing inadequate heating so my hair didn’t curl as well as with a traditional iron with a clip.  For that reason, I purchased this one (because of the prong in the middle).  I hoped that it would pull the hair tighter and heat more thouroughly and uniformly.  So...the prong does help with that BUT it has its own flaws. That prong takes up half of the barrel and it since doesn’t get hot, you can’t  really get medium length hair fully coiled around the barrel and to heat it. If you do somehow manage to get the full length of a section of hair around the barrel, the hair that’s closest to your head doesn’t get heated enough to hold the curl.  Maybe somebody with chin length or shorter hair may have better luck with this but I found the first one that I purchased was much better because of the longer heating element (only a very small portion at the top stayed cool). There’s definitely a learning curve with these things and I don’t think that was the issue here. I can say the wand you’re asking about wound my hair much faster than the one I ultimately kept...and that was a plus. Hope this helped! Every time i push the l or r curling button, the wand shuts off. am i missing something or do i have a defective product?

If it shuts off completely then it is definitely defective.  When you push the up or down button and the barrel begins to spin you should hear several beeps.  Maybe, If you are putting too big of a section of hair in the barrel, it could have an auto cutoff....that would be a good safety feature if it didn’t 😉 hope you get it working...if not get a replacement...it’s so worth it 😁

I don't know how short your hair is, but this worked fine for mine, which is above shoulder length.
