Alphabetica : A Satire On Majoritarianism

Hats off to Roy Phoenix's graphic and detailed imagination on something as inanimate as the letters of the English Alphabet! So much to learn here as he takes us through the machinations of the protagonist Ypsi on behalf of the unacknowledged majority -- the Consonants, against the minority five Vowels. The Vowels are in turn led by the humorous Epsi -- without whom the English language would surely be poorer.And thereby lies a tale of many twists and turns, humour and satire, and multiple rabbit holes that the reader goes through without knowing where they will arrive next.If you love the English language, do give this a shot. Not always an easy read since Kaushik's imagination is far ahead of the average reader's, but totally worth every page and plot. Alphabetica clearly brings out the importance of outlining and sketching each character out before embarking on a prose / novel of any nature. Congratulations Kaushik!

The book is a simple, great apologue, modern, distinctive, satirical, unique and fun-filled storyline, well probed, well thought out book. This book can be read by any age group be it children or age group of young adults both will love it for sure. So there is a planet Typewriter where alphabets live in their magical world. The author creates characters for this story based on Alphabets (Vowels and Consonants). Roy Phoenix has just jotted down a different book, a comedy about an imaginary country huddled in a typewriter, where the plurality consonants are after the minority vowels.It is mysterious, yet a thoughtful foresight operating upheaval to split up the vowels and consonants and Alphabetica becoming Consonantica with the expatriation of the vowels. This book is completely a refreshing read and a page-turner at the ground level with a relatively significant message out there for readers.

Alphabetica is a great allegory, and contemporary as well.It is esoteric, but nevertheless a brilliant imagination running riot to divide the vowels and consonants and Alphabetica becoming Consonantica with the banishment of the vowels.I loved the chief protagonist, Ypsi, her machinations to become Madame Supreme Leader and her eventual crash to the ground reality.The piece de resistance was the concluding chapters celebrating the reunification of Alphabetica and Sam's apt panegyric "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog". It beautifully summarizes the value of unity of letters and the indispensability of each of the 26 characters, whether a vowel or a consonant. it is not just about Q being useless by itself, but about the beauty of the unison of Q and U.There is a poignancy as well a celebration in the overall construct of the book.The illustrations and caricatures of the letters are brilliant.Take a bow, Roy - a Phoenix has risen.

It's a brilliant satire. The interplay between vowels and consonants is out of this world. Making characters out of vowels and consonants shows the brilliance of Roy Phoenix.

Incredible narrative on majoritarianism, reimagined through consonants and vowels. What a magical world this, Planet Typewriter.

Although yet to complete, interesting to read! Eagerly waiting for the next book!!

Roy Phoenix has just written a delightfully clever book, a satire about a mythical land nestled in a typewriter, where the majority consonants are after the minority vowels. Reminds me of Jonathan Swift, with a dash of Orwell. I have rarely come across satire of this intellectual calibre, and am waiting for the next 5-6 books by Phoenix, this is a dream debut.
