Proudly made in the USA! Instructions: Jewelry: A strong magnet helps in evaluating and identifying fake jewelry, but it is not fool proof. The magnet should always be the first test you perform on an unknown piece of jewelry. If there is any steel or iron present, the magnet will attract. These metals are found in jewelry where they are electroplated with gold or silver, but they will never be present in high quality jewelry (with the possible exception of clasps, which sometimes have steel springs inside them). It is important to note, however, that not all fake jewelry will have these metals present because there are other non-magnetic metals that can be used as a base. Anything that passes a magnet test (no reaction from the magnet) can be scrutinized further using other methods, such as doing an acid test.The magnet insert is rated at 10 lbs (as with all magnets, this rating depends on the magnet mating to a smooth, flat, unpainted steel surface). These magnets have an excellent feel and are very sensitive. The brass casing protects the magnet from chipping and breaking. Comes with a split ring for easy carrying, and a protective vinyl cap. Dimensions are: 1/2" diameter x 3/4" tall head, 2-1/2" overall length, 3/8" diameter handle, 1/2" diameter stainless steel split ring.

**Q: How can I use it to test gold and silver jewelry?**
A: This is a scam. 18 bucks for a magnet stuck on a brass rod? You could buy 100 of those magnets for that price. 
More importantly, for jewelry or precious metal bars, this is pretty much useless. Steel is not used as a base for these things, and those who claim otherwise are just amateurs parroting what they heard from other dummies.

**Q: What is your suggestion for protecting credit cards from the magnet while they both share my purse? Thanks!**
A: Magnetically shield your cards by wrapping them in wire mesh (the RF field mesh sold here will work) and put that in a thick walled steel card case or cigarette case.  Maybe wrap the cards in several layers before throwing into the cigarette case.

Ever take a magnet and stick a metal plate to it?  Then stick another plate to that?  And another?  Notice how quickly the magnet's strength fades and disappears with each successive plate?  Same thing.

**Q: Is there a brass case of some type to put the magnet in so everything is protected?**
A: Why would you use a brass case?  Brass wouldn't shield the magnetic field at all because brass is not magnetic.  To shield a magnetic field, you need another ferromagnetic substance so the field lines follow the lines of the most conductive substance - the iron/steel.  More or less.  Get one of those larger steel pill cases or something of that sort and drop this in there.

**Q: Does the product work through the plastic seal if 1oz bar ?**
A: I'm not sure what your referencing when you say "thru the plastic seal if 1oz. Bar" if you could rephrase your question perhaps I can help. There is a rubber cover on the magnet and it will work thru that but I have the feeling that's not what you mean. If you mean a one oz. Bar of silver or gold then I would have to say it's not likely unless it's very thin.
