Nice quality tank!
I really like this tank! I was looking for a nice small tank for a planted aquarium. The bow on the front really makes the tank unique and adds a sharp expensive look to the tank. The quality of the glass is nice and the black beading on the back wall and the top rim of the tank really helps clean things up. It nicely hides all the equipment and pumps in the bank and give a nice look to the waterline. The light fixture came DOA, but the seller quickly replaced it and it is now working great. The light is bright and provides a lot of custom options. It may not be the strongest light for a planted tank, but sure looks like it will be more than enough for the plants I am growing. The real compartments are large enough for your own mix of equipment and filter media. The grates on the intakes are a nice touch and will keep small fry or shrimp out of the rear compartments. I added some small filter material inside these grates to further decrease the chance of fry or shrimp entering. The pump is quite strong and is completely silent. I cannot hear it run at all. The tank sits next to my bed and you wouldn't think it was even running. The tank also came with a nice mat for the bottom glass. Overall I am extremely happy with the tank. Ignore the bad or misleading reviews. Perfect planted tank. Great quality and a great price point. Thanks!

Fantastic!! I Love This Aquarium!
For many years, I kept saltwater, brackish, and freshwater aquariums on a pretty large scale. I took a break from the hobby, and recently found myself ready to get back in the saddle, though on a smaller scale. I chose this aquarium for the Fluval name-- I had great prior experiences with Fluval filtration (loved my Fx4!!) This aquarium reignited my love for Fluval. Super quick and easy set-up, attractive, so quiet that you can't hear it running, and the lighting is really sophisticated-- fun to personalize the light settings!! I was pleasantly surprised by the technological advances (and reduced costs) offered by this aquarium, since I was last active in the hobby. Overall, I give this 5+ stars. I plan on buying this set-up again for my parents (and setting up another one for myself!). I do, though, have some suggestions to Fluval, as an experienced aquarist, as to improving this already great aquarium-- 1. The food slot in the front of the tank lid would benefit from having a sliding or hinged door. My cats sit on top of the tank and were easily able to get their paws in, until I installed a mesh cover. 2. It would be nice to have the top hinged, so it would be supported whenever doing water changes. 3. Even though this is a relatively small aquarium, I can see that there might be times that you might want to use additional equipment with it, such as a chiller, sump, or UV sterilizer. However, the current lid design, head space, and design of the partitions between the back chambers doesn't support this. It would be great if those areas could be re-designed to provide flexibility to use additional equipment, as needed. Overall, though, I adore this aquarium!! Already planning my next Fluval Fex 15 gallon tank. Stay tuned!

Sweet aquarium!
This tank is pretty sweet. It is durable and has great power in the pump as well as multiple outlets for water flow as well as excellent lighting. It even has an option to mimic a thunder shower pretty sweet!

Beautiful!
Nice sleek design. Lots of room in the back for a heater, bubbler, etc. (I even managed to fit a sponge filter seeded with bacteria from a well established older aquarium in the back to speed up the cycling process (from Angels Plus) The lights are nice. 15 different colors plus a white light with a dimmer switch for all lights. The night time setting is pretty and will make glofish products glow nicely. The lightning setting is novel but I can't see leaving that on much. It just flashes white light like lightning. Kids may like it though. My favorite is the button that cycles through all the colors slowly. I recommend getting a 3D background for this tank before you set it up. The background is black and not all fish look that good against a plain black background. Especially dark colored fish. We got The Underwater Treasures 3D vine background and I could not be happier with it. (Easy to cut to fit this tank and looks fantastic) Only problem we had was that some of our tetras fit through the slits in the intake vents and ended up in the back filter part of the tank. It was pretty hard to get those buggers out of there. Once they were out I put some sponge material over the vents and that seems to have solved the problem. (The sponge fits into the square for the vent that we cut through the background and the background keeps the sponge in place over the vent. I'm not sure how you would solve this issue without a 3D background.) Overall I love this tank and couldn't be happier with it Update 2/23/18 Ive had this tank for almost a year now and I still love it. The only problem I had was about 2 months ago the pump got really slow so the water was barely moving through the filter. I took the pump out, took it apart and cleaned the small sponge around the intake inside the pump (not the big square filter sponge in the back but the tiny one inside the pump itself) and it fixed the problem. (Is it in the directions somewhere to periodically clean the pump itself out? because I completely missed that) anyway...everything is back to normal now. I still highly recommend this tank...Just remember to clean the little tiny sponge inside the pump from time to time.

No tank is perfect for all fish
No tank is perfect for all fish. I bought this tank to upgrade from a Spec V 5 gallon tank for a Dumbo HM male betta. Overal I gave it a 4 instead of a 3 as what I like about this tank is it’s contour of the fromt glass, it has an upgraded lighting system from the Spec 5 and the filtratin system, heater and pump is easy to maintain and hidden from the display portion. It’s listed as a 15 gallon however the filter and pump section takes up about 2.5 gallon which is no big deal for a single betta and there is plenty of swimmimg room even with driftwood, some anubias and planted and floating wisteria. There is extra room in the hidden filter section for extra floss or even another filter spounge for the Spec V. This is handy and I use it to set up my 5 gallon for a hospital tank. For my use for a betta with a huge tail and fins, I find flaws in the pump being too strong and not adjustable. It can be corrcted in several ways. Buy a smaller adjustable pump, drill holes in the tubimg or as I did, put two Flubal pre filters over the two adjustable outflow ports and cut a small hole in the end of the pre filter. That works great. It is a higher tank which is good for an assortment of plants but with floating plants and the nature of a betta spending a lot of time near the top, I wish it came with a clear top option so I can see the fish at the surface. I find myself wedging the front of the lid up a couple inches to watch my fish. Due to the height of the tank and the volume of plants, I purchased a 4 watt submergible light stick and placed it in the front upper portion of the glass to aid in plant growth and light up shadowed areas. For the plants I have, this is ample light and they all are growing well. The newer model has removable cover ports making the water intake slits smaller and I have no problems with tail and fin damage. It is a nice tank for a betta providing you understand their needs and make some modificatioms. My biggest grip is a personal one in that I wish they make a clear acrylic lid so I can see the fish better. One other thing I don’t care for is the inch so so of black etching they have at the top of the glass to hide the water marks. It takes away viewimg the fish as my fish eargerly swims to the top fromt of the glass when I het close and I can’t see him. Overall, it is a nice aquarium as it has a nice contour and the filteration is hidden but for me and my fish, I find a couple of flaws. I would recomend this tamk for a betta but be prepared to make a couple modifications.

Such a pretty tank!
I bought a used tank for cheaper, which I was weary about because what if it was cracked or damaged or had a leak? I rinsed it out and put water in it and so far so good (it's on the cycling process right now), but then I realized that the pump wasn't working for me! I put it in different outlets to try and see and it still wouldn't work. I messaged the company and two days later, they responded, but they sent me a new pump for free! So they were a very nice brand to get ahold of and didn't even question it when I asked what I could do. The lighting works great. Their pump water flow was pretty strong so I did what another reviewer said and I bought those foam things to put on top of them, also from the brand fluval, which really slowed it down. I also bought the 15 gallon heater that fluval offers, which I bought used too, and it works great. Some reviewers mentioned the hole at the top, but if you have floating plants that can cover that space, I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue. Or get a piece of mesh if it's bothering you. It's really not that big and if your betta jumps through that, you might want to invest in teaching it to do some tricks because that would be impressive (I can only say that for the 15 gallon, I don't know about the 9 gallon). Anyway, I love my new tank!

Worst Customer Service EVER
I've always heard great things about Fluval and when I saw this tank, I really wanted it. Aesthetically, the tank is beautiful. The lighting is great, However I ran into a few issues with it. 1. The biggest issue I have with it is my particular tank is running hot. Running on the base equipment, i.e. the lights and filter and nothing else... My tank has reached 84 degrees and was still climbing before I manually cooled it down by floating multiple bags of ice in it. I have a fan sitting on top of it right now, blowing into the tank to cool it down, with the hood cracked open to let the heat out, and my ceiling fan is on full blast, with my AC down to 76-77, and it sits at 79 (which is a temperature that I wouldn't mind, if I wasn't taking all of these extra measures to keep it cool). There's no heater in it, and I have an air pump in there - Which I've disconnected and watched to see if that was the issue. -I've contacted the manufacturer about it and they're blaming it on something on my end, claiming that my thermostat is probably wrong and it's probably hotter in the room that the tank is in (even though I have thermometers that say otherwise), and they keep ignoring my questions about the LED possibly malfunctioning or what not... as if the LED wiring can't possibly have a wire messed up (Like my local fish store actually suggested when I explained it all to them, which makes sense when you feel the hood where the light bar is... It's rather hot...) 2. The thing that I could deal with but the above situation has just really put a bad taste in my mouth for this tank - The overhead water flow from the filter is very strong. My fish go up to the water surface over by where the feeding space is and get tossed against the glass from the water coming in so harshly. The filter is non-adjustable so there's no fixing it from that end. 3. The slots for the water intake are HUGE. Any small fish that you would keep in this aquarium can fit right through. I've added a filter sponge cut out for that section to block it all off to take care of that. All in all, the tank is beautiful. The lighting is great and grows plants pretty well. However the overheating is very frustrating and the customer service leaves a lot to be desired, as the latest thing is "Well what type of fish are you keeping anyway" - like that should really matter. My 5 Guppies might not mind it, but the Rasboras that I have ordered might be a little toasty in a tank that's above 80. EDIT: I'll just flat out say it, After all of the email correspondences that I've had with Hagen "Service" representatives, they are absolutely the WORST customer service representatives that I have ever had the displeasure of conversing with. Lord help whoever has an issue with their tank, because they surely won't assist you in any ways. I'll be making a HUGE note of this for future purchases.

Love this tank.
This is a great universal tank. The lights are great for artificial plants. I don’t feel like it would be bright enough for a planted tank. It is just the right size to sit on the counter in the kitchen. The filter on this thing is pretty overpowered. You can make it a shrimp tank but it takes a few 3rd party accessories to tone the filter down. I have had mine for probably six months now, I wanted this to be a pretty stress free tank so I did all artificial plants and natural gravel as a substrate. I’ve got a school of neons, a snail, and some Khuli loaches. I have been neglecting this tank, did no water changes, no tank cleanings, I have only added zero water to replace the water that evaporated. Water is crystal clear. My only complaint is the remote that came with the light is messed up. The button that turns on natural white light doesn’t work. So now I’m on a green hue light. When that one breaks going to put a different light bar in.

Not happy, the delivered version is for 110V
Not in the description on Amazon or anywhere else is there any mentioning that this aquarium must be connected to 110V. Not even in the product description. The only thing that made me suspicious was the plug, which is rather unusual here, and I only found the necessary information on the plug itself. Unfortunately, a return is not possible for various reasons and so I am forced either to make something myself or to buy expensive spare parts.
