Let's compare this product, the "Bru Joy" can opener, against the "Made in USA" can opener sold at Amazon
Both can openers are far superior in function to all other manual can openers sold in local hardware stores or sold in online mail order catalogs. The Bru Joy can opener requires more practice than the Made in USA can opener to use properly. However, once a person becomes skilled at using the Bru Joy can opener properly, it will cut somewhat more easily than the Made in USA can opener. One advantage of the Bru Joy can opener is that if used properly (with strength), it is less likely to leave a dangerous, sharp, metal dagger on the rim of the opened can. By contrast, the Made in USA can opener frequently leaves a dangerous, sharp, metal dagger on the rim of the opened can. Strangely enough, if the Bru Joy can opener is used improperly (without strength) by an inexperienced user, the dangerous, sharp, metal dagger that ends up forming will be even more dangerous than the dagger which is frequently created when the Made in USA can opener is used.[When properly used, the Bru Joy can opener prevents the formation of the dangerous metal dagger by refusing to allow any can to be cut open unless the can is pushed down (with strength) toward the floor, table top, or counter top. Other can openers allow cans (especially tuna cans) to be opened while they are held up in the air, thereby greatly encouraging the formation of the dangerous metal dagger on the rim of each opened can].Another advantage of the Bru Joy can opener is that if a dangerous metal dagger forms (due to improper use of the Bru Joy can opener because of inadequate hand strength) on the rim of the can while cutting it open, the Bru Joy can opener can immediately go back toward the dangerous metal dagger to try to successfully cut it off. By contrast, the Made in USA can opener is totally unable to cut off a dangerous metal dagger once it has already formed on the rim of the can.Another advantage of the Bru Joy can opener is that it is easier to wipe clean than the Made in USA can opener after each use.The biggest advantage of the Bru Joy can opener is that it weighs much less than the very heavy Made in USA can opener. Also, the black plastic cutting dial of the Bru Joy can opener can be rotated with slightly less strength than is required to rotate the shiny metallic cutting dial of the Made in USA can opener. Also, making the initial cut does not require that much strength for both can openers. However, neither can opener is ideal for people with arthritic hands. An electric can opener is by far the best can opener for people with arthritic hands. Bru Joy's advertizing is fraudulent when they recommend their Bru Joy can opener for people with arthritis. The truth is that the Bru Joy can opener is THE WORST can opener that a person with arthritic hands can buy. The Made in USA can opener is better than the Bru Joy can opener for people with arthritic hands. The reason is that the Bru Joy can opener requires great strength in order to use properly. The person using the Bru Joy can opener needs great strength in his left hand to hold the 2 handles of the Bru Joy can opener together while cutting. Also, the person using the Bru Joy can opener needs great strength in his left hand to push the can downward toward the flat surface while cutting. Because arthritic hands lack strength due to pain, people with arthritic hands would definitely fail to use the Bru Joy can opener properly, thereby resulting in partially opened cans with EXTREMELY dangerous edges.[Both left-handed people and right-handed people must use the Bru Joy can opener in exactly the same way. The left hand must hold the 2 handles together while the right hand must rotate the black plastic cutting dial].Another disadvantage of the Bru Joy can opener is that the underside of the circular metal lid will be more dangerous to lick after a can is cut open than the Made in USA can opener. The reason is that the edges of the circular metal lid will always be slightly ruffled (curly) and more likely to cut a person's tongue or lips, even after the Bru Joy can opener was used properly. I frequently like to lick the underside of the circular metal lid after cutting open a small can of tomato paste.2.5 years ago, the Made in USA can opener sold for only $8.89 (free shipping over $25) but the price has very gradually been sneaking higher and the Made in USA can opener is now priced at $15.18 (free shipping over $35). Meanwhile, I purchased the Bru Joy can opener for only $9.99 (free shipping over $35) only 3 weeks ago but it is now suddenly priced at $14.95 (free shipping over $35).The stainless steel alloy used by the Made in USA can opener will eventually rust everywhere on the exposed metal parts of the can opener except where it matters most. (The cutting wheels will not rust). Meanwhile, the stainless steel alloy used by the Bru Joy can opener, which is made in China, looks very shiny and functions like a genuine mirror (excellent for applying makeup or pulling hairs on one's own face). The Bru Joy can opener might not rust as easily as the Made in USA can opener. Stainless steel alloys made in the United States tend to be too high in molybdenum and too low in niobium (columbium). Molybdenum is mined very plentifully in the United States and is strongly begging for uses. Meanwhile, stainless steel alloys made in Japan and later, stainless steel alloys made in Brazil, have been superior in many ways (including corrosion resistance) because they tend to be high in niobium and low in molybdenum.[The molybdenum-rich stainless steel alloys made by the U.S. require a greater amount of chromium and nickel to achieve the same degree of corrosion resistance as niobium-rich stainless steel alloys and so they continue to rust more easily than the stainless steel alloys of China, Japan, Brazil, Germany, and South Korea].Chinese mines account for 97% of the world's rare earths mineral production. Some of these 17 rare-and-expensive chemical elements can be used to improve stainless steel alloys. China imposes an export quota on their rare earths metals to keep their prices very high outside of China. Even the niobium-rich Japanese and Brazilian stainless steel alloys might prefer not to afford these rare earths chemical elements. Bru Joy's truly awesome stainless steel alloys have very cheap access to these 15 rare metals in the lanthanide series plus the 2 rare earths metals, scandium and yttrium, which are not included in the lanthanide series of chemical elements.Japan has been working with Vietnam and India to encourage rare earths metal mining but with only limited success. The vast majority of China's advanced knowledge of stainless steel alloys is classified and cannot be viewed on the internet. However, Chinese expert W. Gao writes, "The addition of small amounts of reactive elements such as cerium, yttrium, hafnium, thorium, lanthanum, or their oxide dispersions greatly increases the high-temperature oxidation resistance of Fe-Cr alloys under isothermal or cyclic conditions."[All research studies indicating that the addition of samarium is extremely beneficial to stainless steel alloys have mysteriously disappeared from the internet].CONCLUSION: An experienced user of both can openers would agree that the Bru Joy can opener is slightly better than the Made in USA can opener. However, an inexperienced user of both can openers might falsely conclude that the Bru Joy can opener is too dangerous to use.

Looks great but durability is questionable
I bought one of these to replace an old can opener. I wanted something that looked sleek and this can opener definitely lived up to that desire. However, what it has in aesthetics it lacks in performance. The can opener quit opening cans about a year after use. The gears would just turn and not clamp down on the lip of tin cans. It really is a great looking can opener and worked great for a year but I have had less expensive can openers hold up for a lot longer.

High-Quality Can-opener
Best can opener ever. I have had it for several months now and it still works just like it did when it was brand new. I waited this long to give it a review because I like to give new products like this a good testing before I give my seal of approval. This can opener reminds me of a 1940's refrigerator that still sits on my parents front porch. Let me tell you why. That fridge is small, ices up and you have to defrost it a few times a year, but It was first owned by my Great Grandparents, who gave it to their son and daughter-in-law, who gave it to my parents. It is about 70 years old and has never been serviced, but it still runs great. It even still has the original rubber seals on the door (which could stand to be replaced). It looks like it has been shot out of a cannon into a granite cliff; not much to look at but it keeps plugging away. That is the way they used to build things. These days you may consider yourself lucky, (really lucky) if an appliance lasts you ten years. This can opener reminds me of that kind of craftsmanship. The Bru Joy Stainless Steel Manual Can-opener is a product I would buy again, and will recommend because of its superior workmanship and its ease of use. It cuts through the metal of a can like a hot knife through butter and is very easy to turn the handle. You may find another can-opener of equal quality, but it is unlikely you will find a better one.

Very sturdy
I was immediately caught by the tag line, "Fed up with cheap/inferior can openers that break easily?" Yes, yes I am. My wife and I run a restaurant, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to find a good can opener that will last more than a week (if that long), especially cutting # 10 cans like we so often do. I decided to take a chance, and so far we are LOVING this can opener. It grabs on and cuts very cleanly and easily. No more fumbling around with gears that you can feel grinding themselves into nothingness as you spin the handle over and over. No more feeling the cheap, thin metal bend under you hand as you try to open a can. These have been great for us. Only lacking 5 stars because occasionally they have to be held at a specific angle to stay on the can and keep cutting, but we have learned to hold them a certain way to mostly avoid this.

UPDATE TO i'm sorry to tell you that these are the worst can openers MY MISTAKE
MY ORIGINAL REVIEW IS AFTER THIS ONE...i have a friend that is left handed & i asked her to try this can opener. she had absolutely no trouble. i tried to use the opener again with no luck. we couldn't figure out the problem until we realized that she was tipping the opener towards the can & i was tilting the opener outwards. if you have trouble with the opener then tilt it towards the can & you will get a smooth & easy open. now that i have found a solution I like this can opener. it has a sharp blade & cuts fast. OLD REVIEW.... i'm sorry to tell you that these are the worst can openers i have ever had....neither one of the two worked beyond the second or third turn of the handle. the distance between the blade wheel & the guide spokes wheel is not wide enough & you have to reset the opener every third turn. if you watch the video you will see the can opener pop off the can. it did that at least 4 times for each can i "TRIED" to open... 0 stars for opener function & 5 stars for the look...result good looking "no function" can opener.
