A Beautiful Movie with a Purpose.
Wow, I cannot believe it took me so long to get around to watching this movie! It is on my Starz Channel in Amazon Prime Video so I decided to finally watch it last night! I do not regret it! It started very interesting to me as a woman telling her story! It's like you were a friend and she was explaining who she was, maybe doing some self reflection! It went back and forth a lot to show what had happened or what she thought was happening! It's very interesting to find out what was truly going on & just goes to show how easily a person's entire reality can be tainted with just a change in perspective by another person! I don't want to spoil anything for whoever hasn't seen this but things aren't always what you think! I think we do that so much in our world! We hide things and put blame on someone who is the easiest target instead of seeing the whole picture! But, this definitely had an amazing ending! It Justified everything! I found myself cheering and it showed that if you stand up and stand your ground to a Bully, in the end, the truth will be known and all that hurt will be worthwhile! I don't know why some people didn't like this movie! I thought it really had amazing suspense, memorable and characters and a real Justifiable Cause that was revealed in the end! I like that it was kind of like a mystery you had to piece together alongside the main character! Pieces were fuzzy at times and she kind of acted like a detective on her own life events, probably how some people feel about their own lives who want to know the truth! It was "The Who Done It" style of movie which I love as I always like choose your own adventure detective books! This is that in movie form! The best thing I took from this movie apart from the fact that "The Truth Shall Set You Free", was this, "Things aren't always as they seem" awesome themes and a movie that gave me so many feels and I will remember for year to come! If you haven't watched it, do it. I promise, it is an intriguing movie if characterization and twisted endings are your cup of tea!

Better than the book but...
I have to preface my review by saying that I did not particularly care for the book. It is rare for me to find a movie to be better than the book, but this was one such case. I read The Girl On The Train just a few months ago, long after the stellar reviews had hyped it into a thrilling page-turner that I wouldn't be able to put down. I did put it down. Several times. The only reason I kept picking it back up was because I thought it would eventually get better since the reviews promised a roller-coaster ride with a jaw-dropping ending. I found the book to be less of a roller coaster and more like riding a carousel blindfolded. There were frequent hints of an exciting plot, but rather than explore those plot lines, the author kept the ride going in a safe circle. It was almost like the author had a better idea for the story, but ran out of time and couldn't flesh those ideas out.The movie, by comparison, didn't suffer the same wastefulness. Even though I knew the story, the movie kept the drama building toward the ending. The streamlined use of different timelines seemed to have more purpose in the movie than they did in the book. In the book, it seemed like several of the timeline switches served no purpose at all. They didn't develop the plot. They didn't develop the characters. It was almost like the author dropped them into the reader's lap and said, "Here are some samples of the more exciting book I didn't write." They felt less like twists in the road and more like an unfinished overpass. You could see twists on the other side, but you had no choice except to back up your car and get back on the boring main road. When I watched the movie, I actually cared about what happened to the characters (particularly the main character). I felt myself almost wondering how it would all turn out even though I'd read the book. I got about 70% of the way through the book and all I could think was, "Let's just get it over with." The author failed to engage my sympathy for the main character even though I knew I should've felt something. In the end, the movie was a faithful telling of the story that seemed to hit where the author missed. I probably would've enjoyed the movie more if I hadn't already read the book.
