Review: 5? More Like 10! - This is the best cuckold & Femdomme literature I've ever read. There are a couple caveats, however. First, you have to understand that this is *nonfiction*. It's not a fantasy. It's not a story. It's not a dream. It's the real thing. Vanessa Chaland has been a relatively well known member of the BDSM community for years. She practically invented the modern Queening chair. Ask anyone out on FetLife. Or better yet, see her website. But I'm not here to review her chairs: I'm here to review her book. Next, you need to be patient. Editorial conventions are thrown out the window here. This book is a collection of emails. They aren't edited for standard grammar or spelling or sentence structure necessarily. She publishes them as-is and I think that's great. They read exactly as what they are: emails between lovers. I'd use a word like "versimilitude" to describe the writing except she isn't faking anything. So what do I love about this book? This is first and foremost a love story. It is real and deep and wonderful. It is the story of how lovers grow into themselves and each other thru radical honesty and complete trust: and that includes trusting one another to embrace and act on their deepest desires for cruelty and humiliation. And in doing so, counterintuitive tho it may sound, they find true compassion for themselves and each other: love without boundaries or preconceptions, a love does all it can to build, exalt and strengthen jealousy, fear, disgust, carnal desire and profound humiliation - and so transcend them all. Everything is thrown into the fire and love burns them all away. There is something profound here. This radical act of trust - of taking all those emotions we're supposed to avoid in a relationship and instead doing all we can to trigger them - well, what can I say? There's something almost spiritual about it. Subjectification via radical objectification. Think Buber's theology. You can see this dynamic at work in how they develop as people. His initial reluctance to engage with her and submit to her desires: her growing trust in herself and him: the creation of their own set of shared fantasies and experiences - we get to watch as their mutual objectification lets them freely explore who they are, shaping who they will become: a couple living a true expression of inner-most selves. This is also a first class bit of erotica. If a filthy mind is a terrible thing to waste then Vanessa and her hubby waste nothing. The substance of their desires - lifestyle cuckold D/s - doesn't change. She drives and he follows. But we get to watch as they hone those desires. We see how their desires morph over time, one fantasy revealing another in a long chain of desire culminating in their acting out. But don't get me wrong: this isn't a blow-by-blow recounting of sex acts. This is not Esmeralda Greene. Yes, there's some of that. But since this is a collection of emails, and since almost all of their recounting was done face-to-face, they included few exhaustive details of their encounters. And I think "Cuckold Letters" is better for it. Let's face it: a ton of detail is nice if you're reading a short story. You want some intro, a bunch of sweaty action and an imaginative, explicit payoff. That's what Esmeralda Greene does and does better than anyone. But that doesn't work for a longer piece. It would be exhausting - especially a piece that is focused on one particular relationship dynamic as this one is. "Cuckold Letters" is explicit in other ways: in how a D/s marriage is born and matures into something magical. The turn-on (at least for me) is in the relationship. It's in the sharing of their desires. The sex is in the silences between the pages. Finally, this book is a gift. By publishing this book Vanessa is giving her husband the gift of betrayal: she has revealed him for all the world to see as a sexually inadequate beta male. Never again can he walk down the street without feeling some taint - some thrill - of the public, sexual humiliation this work represents. And yet... The reality is that Vanessa's hubby is more of a man than 99% of the men you meet. And this work is proof. He has embraced a role that few of us guys would have the guts to embrace: one where he jettisons the macho, controlling, he-man image in favor of one that honors his lover above all things. What "man" among you would ever admit to craving what he finally finds he craves? And who is the bigger man: the one who denies his inner cravings as not worthy, or the one who stands before the world proudly, hiding nothing? So... If you want "Penthouse Letters, Cuckold Edition", don't buy this. If you want a D/s how-to, don't buy this bood. If you want a male-oriented fantasy of Femdomme, don't buy this book. If you're a stickler for grammar, don't buy this. But.. If you want to read about a transcendent D/s relationship, get it! If you want to read the filthiest emails ever written about the cuckold dynamic, get it! If you want to see what it really takes to be man and still be a sub, get it! If you want to read the most unconventional love story ever, get it! This is a fabulous read. Vanessa, you have my deepest thanks for publishing this. Cocky, where ever you are out there (I certainly hope beneath Vanessa!), I salute you.
