POWERTEC 70169 Mini Gulp Dust Hood Collector with 4" ID Port - ABS Plastic Fitting for Woodworking Dust Collection Hose

Being a woodturner I create lots of sanding dust. I use this attached to a 2hp dust collector with a clothes dryer vent hose to extract dust. It is very efficient in polling the dust away from me and into the dust collector bag.

This is a great dust chute. Sturdy with consistent and smooth surface. My intended use was to mount it inside of a mobile miter saw cart with built in hood. The problem for my use was its height and depth were too large to fit in my cabinet with shop vac and dust separator. Additionally, the 4" to 2.5" adapter to connect to shop vac adds additional height. My solution was to find a much smaller funnel with 2.5" connector. Again, no problem with the product. It's great for what it is but if you are planning on mounting inside a cabinet that is shared with a shop vacuum than it's probably too big and I don't think the 4" opening would add benefit since it would then connect straight to a reducer anyways.

I do a lot of knife building including making handles., grinding blades etc. I frequently use a die grinder with carbide rasps and a Foredom flex shaft grinder also with carbide rasps and bits for roughing out handles. Those tools work great but they make a big mess. This collection hood is the right size but the wrong configuration. By itself, the hood is too light, inherently unstable and difficult to use as is when it arrived due to weight of the heavy vinyl hose from my Jet dust collector. I made a frame for the hood for bench top use that dramatically improved the usefulness of this dust collection hood. The frame gives the hood some weight and stability on my bench and I can clamp it to my bench or wherever when needed. The setup works very well for my purposes and I collect about 70% of the dust with my 2hp Jet dust collector connected. Hard to go 5 stars considering the modifications required to meet my needs but for the price, it’s a lightweight and now well designed & functional + portable dust collection hood. I plan to add a handle to my Jerry-rigged dust hood concoction. Your experience and needs will inevitably vary and the hood might work perfect out of the box. Hope that helps!

It is plastic, but it is made well. Very happy and recommend.

Used this for an exhaust hood at my soldering station. Hooked it up to a blower and ported it to the outside. Works like a charm.

Its sturdy and cheap. Mine is inset in a bench under my belt grinder for iron filings to be channeled into a water bucket. I'll have to buy a second one and some hose for horizontal grinding. At this price I can afford to be fancy and buy 2. I cut the slits out of the bottom because they are a hindrance for my application.

This hood has a throat that is the same OD as my powerful shop vacuum. I had to separately purchase a rubber pipe union to join the hood to the vacuum. Then I discovered that this arrangement doesn't suck - literally. I assume that it might suck some dust if attached to a more powerful shop dust removal system.
