How this works on a propane grill
OK, so after messing with this thing for awhile, I figured out how to do it so you get the flavor into whatever you are grilling. I am using a Weber Q320 and I put the smoke tube directly over the center propane tube, on top of the grill. Then I put the warming rack directly on top of the smoker tube and cook on that. The way it works is to crank the grill up on high so the pellets start smoking. Once the pellets are smoking, then you turn off the outer ring and run the grill on only the center tube, so the temperature is as low as the grill will go. In my grill, this is around 250F. I also leave the lid up for a bit to cool it off. Once the grill temp drops, then I put on whatever I am going to grill on the warming rack and let it go for however long it takes to come up to temperature, using a thermometer to monitor it. It takes about 45-50 minutes for big thick beef burgers and about an hour for full chicken breasts. The key is to go low and slow, so the meat gets as much contact with smoke as possible. You also have to be patient. If you cook at normal grill temperatures you will get little or no smoke flavor into whatever you are grilling as there will not be enough contact time.I also reuse partially burned smoke pellets and mix them with new inside the tube, as they catch faster. I keep the partially burned ones by hosing off the smoke tube when I done cooking. Dont totally soak the pellets though, as they will swell and clog up the tube. Just spray them enough to put the fire out and preserve them for next time.

Why pay more when you don't have to?
I got bored with having to feed my 30" Masterbuilt Electric Smoker every 45 minutes and got pointed to the a mazing tubes and trays. I'm a cheapskate and just couldn't justify the expense. Debated making one, but I knew I never would. So I found this gadget on the Amazon. Much cheaper. After watching a couple of YouTube vids, I went to try it out today. Borrowed some pellets from my stepdad's Traeger, filled it up and took a torch to it. It doesn't have a cap for the top, but I rigged up a foil cap. Did the torch thing and was going to let it burn for 10 minutes. Flames went out after a couple minutes, but it was making smoke so I just ignored it until I got all my other prep work done. It was still going so I put it upright on the left front corner of the drip pan and buttoned up the door. Cracked the chip tray maybe an inch, left the chip feeder thing in it's normal spot, and had the top vent open maybe 1/2 way. This little gadget never stopped for a second. It ran from 1pm until 7:30pm and was still 20% full when I took it out. I'm completely sold on this little guy. No offense to any of the others, but I can't imagine how one that costs 2x+ more could do any better. The steel's thick and it doesn't feel flimsy at all. Highly recommended.

but feels like same gauge metal
Haven't used mine yet, will update...plan to use mostly for cold smoking. These are the answers to the questions I had before ordering, and couldn't find:How much does it hold in weight? 1lb and 0.6 oz full (your pellets may vary in weight depending on wood, and moisture content, I used MHC Lumberjack)How valid are the sharp corner comments? If you were to take your hand and slide it down screen to corner with speed and force, you may get a cut...if used with common sense, and intended use...I don't see an issue.Construction? Seems as solid as my N burner. Didn't take a caliper to it, but feels like same gauge metal.Check out the pics, as you can see, mine has a slight twist as you look down the barrel...I'm not concerned.

Great for cold smoking cheese!
Great for cold smoking cheese (yep, it gets cold during the winter in northern Ohio). Fill it with pellets, set it on fire, blow it out, and let it smolder. Though I usually cook with lump charcoal, I am looking forward to using this with my Weber gas grill this summer. If you need instructions on cold smoking cheese, go to Instructables.com and run a quick search.Happy Smoking

I love this! I got a Masterbuilt Electric Smoker and ...
I love this ! I got a Masterbuilt Electric Smoker and I use this instead of the chip loader. I get about 4 hours of smoke. I have three and I can smoke 12 hours when I use them back to back. I highly recommend MES owners get one. It is better than adding chips every 30 minutes.

Better and cheaper then the name brand one.
I bought the name brand 6 inch smoker tube for the same price as this one. This one is much better and it is cheaper. The other one I purchased is round and it tends to roll around. This one stays put. If you are looking at the name brand one that is round don't spend the extra money. Buy this one.

Works really well
Works really well. It's not hard to get to light with a butane torch, it would take a while with just a lighter. Stays lit and produces good smoke, but very little heat (perfect for smoking cheese or fish. The square works better than the round tube since it doesn't roll around and can be place anywhere on the grill.
