Unexpectedly replaced all my shaving products
Bought this to simplify shaving my head through the week since I'd had some barbers use them in the past. I'd heard that you needed to pay big money for a good one of these, so trying this was a gamble for me. Turns out I had nothing to worry about, since it is by far my favorite way to shave now! Unexpected perk: It works great for shaving my face to. I have to shave every day for work (military) and using a razor always had my face fairly chewed up by the end of the week. This does 90% as good of a job of getting close to the skin, with hardly any of the irritation afterwards. My facial hair is fairly thin, so a fast grower with thicker hair might find themself using it mid-day to stay clean shaven, but still. My scalp hair is super dense though, so the fact that this can chew through it down to an almost perfectly smooth scalp with near zero irritation is amazing to me. Standard caveats of using a foil shaver apply: It does best on shorter hair. If I go over a long weekend or a whole week without shaving my head, it takes much more work to shave it back down with this, but if I use it every day on my face and every 2-3 days on my head, it's a dream solution. Long facial hair that wants to stay stuck down close to my skin is especially problematic and may require lots of extra work, or an actual razor to have better luck with. However, I'd heard that these aren't as great for random directional hair as other shaver styles... I didn't find that to be a hindrance for shaving my head, which has super aggressive directional changes near the peak and rear. I just use it like I'd use a normal razor: rough work with the grain, fine work against the grain to get a smooth finish. Difference is, it doesn't have a solid chance of making me bleed when I go against the grain for a smoother finish, nor does it pull hair like crazy if it's not being used perfectly. I did break the head after about 5 weeks of use. I was trying to disassemble it for a deeper clean and got too aggressive with it I guess, causing a plastic tab to snap. Woops. Amazon overnight got me a new one the next day and even if I decided to replace these monthly (probably overkill), the heads are still economical compared to keeping normal razors sharp with constant replacements.

Top dollar shaver at low dollar price
I’ve waited several before writing this review because I really wanted to see if it was worth the money. To be honest, I love it. I had a very expensive one that last me several years prior to this, so I wasn’t sure this one could pass the test of time due to its low price. I can honestly say that my shave is actually better than the one I had before, plus this one has an easy to use trimmer I use for my mustache, beard and sideburns. This thing is great. The charge lasts me a very long time. The way it’s designed to fit in your hand is perfect. It’s a great buy.

Good shaver
My dad loves it work the money. Only problem he has is he keeps popping off he head into pieces and can't put them on. It about average size for a shaver so its portable. Good battery life last him about s month. Shaves good and ease to use to remove hair. They one problems is he pops the head off in 3 different piece it could be just him .

The razor is good but it does not give you a real close shave so I'm not real happy with it

Braun shaver review nearly a year later
Felt I should leave a review after nearly a years use of this shaver. Had bought this shaver last September to replace a Philips that had became annoyingly slow which made things a bit difficult when trying to get ready for work and be out the door a certain time. When the shaver was new it provided a very fast and close shave way better than the Philips that I have sitting in the closet now, or the older Braun's that I had in high school and college. This shaver is easy to clean and maintain, replacing the head very simple. However as I used the shaver more and more started to notice little things. The shave was not as close as it was, started seeing hairs getting missed and if it was thicker or long would have to go over multiple times to get them. Replacing the head would take care of this problem but would start right back up a few months later after some use. When I was looking to replace the Phillips had found the Braun to be the most affordable at the time. 40 bucks is not that much in the grand scheme of thing but when you add the replacement head that was around 20 bucks at the time the cost starts to add up. Especially if you continue to use the shaver and have to replace the head every 4 to 5 months when the shave is not as good. That said I am not sure about long term use of this shaver from a battery life standpoint. I use this shaver 2 maybe 3 times a week and this morning my Braun had died. Worked fine yesterday and the days before but today not so much. This was charged on Monday thought maybe because its older that the charge did not last as long. Tried to charge the unit up and would not charge so in the garbage it goes. Hope this is a one off situation but thought I would add that in especially if you're thinking about getting 2 units at the same time.

We're not in Germany any more
Got this Braun 310s to replace my not-quite-dead 10 yr old Braun 340 (discontinued). After reading the reviews, I wanted to try Braun’s bottom-of-the-line for comparison, and to see where the cost-cutting appears. As an aside, I wonder if Braun really needs six different lines (Series 3,5,6,7,8,9) of electric shavers. The 310’s goodness: • Well it works fine, and features the same motor and drive mechanism as its Series 3 stablemates. • Uses any Series 3 cassette heads. Comes with one 21b, but accepts the slightly better 32b/32s when needed. • Charger adapter interchangeable with older Series 3 coil corded chargers, in both directions. All UL Listed. • Charger w/cable lighter than old coil cord one (66g vs. 100g) so save your old charger, and use the new one for travel. • Body lighter than my old 340 (158g vs. 200g) but feels very solidly built. • Wet or dry operation. Essentially dunk-proof. Looking into its charger port, it appears sealed. • 30-day Braun USA money back guarantee, 2-yr Braun USA limited warranty (excluding head) Here’s where the cost-cutting happened: • No pop-up trimmer. If that’s essential, look at the similar Braun 3040s. • Slightly lower capacity battery (listed 30min vs 45min for its stablemates) but still features quick 1-min charge to allow you to finish your shave. • The only accessories provided are the charger, and a plastic head protector cap. No oil, no brush, no travel case, nothing else. The head protector cap does not extend to protect the power button as on some models. • The blue side body is smooth plastic, the black grippy overmoulding runs down the center front. This is the reverse of the old 340, and odd for something intended to be used in a wet slippery environment. • The charger feels less substantial, but of good quality, features a straight 44 inch cable, which is about the length of the old coil cable when fully extended. You’ll likely want a velcro strap or rubber band to preclude travel-tangle. The 310s will *not* run when plugged in to charge. So cordless-only operation. This is not so much a bug as it is a safety feature to avoid Braun granting a Darwin award to those who, in an AM rush to shower&shave, might run an AC extension cord to the charger to the shaver… in the shower. The instruction book actually addresses this, albeit not Darwin. The LED will fast-flash when running low, and if it dies while you’re shaving, a minute or so charge will actually give you enough runtime to finish. Full charge from dead takes about an hour. Braun’s dry-only shavers do run corded or cordless. So my experiment in Braun cost-cutting has proved successful. If you like the Series 3 heads, want wet-dry operation, and don’t miss the trimmer, the 310s does the job at a very decent price. ---

Just enough shaver for me
After many years without one, I got the idea that having an electric shaver again would be a good thing. I don't have a heavy beard. For a really close shave, I use a safety razor. My goal for the electric was to have a convenient shaver available for a quick touch-up. Something good for an weekend trip, or to make myself presentable for Saturday morning errands. I did not want all the bells and whistles, nor the power of a small lawn mower. After reading many reviews and seeing a lot of high prices I came across the Braun 3 Series, specifically the 310S. This is the shaver I've been looking for. It has: enough power to get the job done; rechargeable NiMH battery; the charging cord has its own converter cube attached; 5 minute quick charge; wet/dry shaving and cleaning capability; Braun designed flex head technology (passed down from the high-end models); and a pop-up trimmer (note: some older reviews state that there is no trimmer, mine has one and it works fine for squaring off sideburns). Finally, the slide-on head cover protects the blades, trimmer, and power button when not in use. So, I got the shaver I wanted without having to pay a premium for features I didn't want – all for a limited-time discount price of $40. I am awarding 4 stars because, as much as I like it, it is not the best shaver I have ever used. But it does fit my needs perfectly.

A good razor.
I have light growth, but like to shave daily. I've been shaving with a Merkur safety razor for years, with either Gillette or Astra blades, but wanted something that wasn't as time consuming. I was prepared to have some trade off against quality of shave, but this gives me a shave that's pretty good, and within a couple of minutes. Shaving in the shower, and with a bit of soap, it gives a mild shave; there's a little more razor burn than I'd expect from the safety razor, but it's not significant. I've had it a week and a half and the foil seems to be holding up well. As yet, I'm not sure what the point will be at which I regard it as reasonable value for money with foil replacement; up to now, I've been used to spending less than a tenner for 100 blades, which will last at least a year! I'm not sure that it would cope well with thicker or longer growth, but to be fair, I don't think it makes any claims to do so, and there are other models that are clearly better suited to this. Also, it charges quickly, and the charge seems to hold well. So, I'm going to give it a full 5- down the line, if either the battery or foil cartridge life isn't reasonable, I'll revise it downwards. If not, I'm still happy with it!
