Soft and smooth cotton, and just the right size
I have a child with allergies and eczema. His skin is easily irritated, and he ends up with painful, inflamed skin around his nose and upper lip every winter. Since I fare better using cloth vs. disposable paper/plastic products against my own sensitive skin, I decided to try handkerchiefs for him this year.I ordered two products from this company, these, and the Childs' Organic Cotton Flannel Handkerchiefs, Small 8"x8", Cream (Set of 3) . For a busy little boy, I figured it was safer to have at least a handful of hankies if I wanted him to get in the habit of reaching for them.Personally, I find the flannel hankies softer and more enticing than the smooth cotton (percale? sateen?) of these. My son, on the other hand, immediately declared that he wanted to carry the smooth woven ones. He also wants to wear a suit and tuck one into his breast pocket, but he's a bit of a fancy dresser. I explained that a pocket square and a functional handkerchief should probably be separate items, especially for a little boy who wants to play in the snow/mud/sand, but he still reaches for the smooth hankies first. Clearly, it is a matter of personal preference which hankie should be applied to one's nose!As far as nose-wiping goes, a handkerchief works just as well as a tissue. That point is pretty well proven by history. Some people have hygiene objections to using cloth. I will point out that:1) Many people now, and almost all people until this past generation, used, washed and re-used cloth diapers, even before the advent of modern hot water heaters and automatic washing machines. If those can be hygienically cleaned, a hankie is child's play!2) The argument that sticking a used hankie in your pocket is revolting completely ignores that fact that, while a used tissue can (and should) be dropped immediately into a waste container, they are OFTEN stuffed into pockets when no trash can is conveniently located. As a mom, I end up with my kids' used tissues in my hands/car/pockets, not even just my own. (Ick!) My kids leave tissues in their pockets and I end up with white fuzz all over the laundry. Hankies are no less gross than this, and will solve the laundry issue. In particular, I ordered two little washable pouches ( Bumkins Reusable Snack Bag, Traffic & Gray Chevron, 2-count ) to use as hankie-holders in little boy pockets. In retrospect, I realized that I really want a two-compartment (but tiny!) pouch to have a clean side and a dirty side for daily carrying, but that is something I would likely make use of, while my kids would mix up the clean with the dirty anyway.3) Learning to wash one's hands frequently, especially before eating, will alleviate most of the gross pocket problem anyway. I don't expect my kids to avoid touching dirt/trees/bugs, because they won't learn and grow nearly so well without those experiences, so hand-washing is a must. Focusing on that leaves me free to save a tree and use a handkerchief. It is likely to be the least disgusting thing in my son's pocket on wash day...

How To Replace Tissues 101
After recently switching to a bidet + washclothes, I am befuzzled at why the last couple of generations have decided that disposable products are the way of the future. Oh well - life is full of oddities. Hopefully this review is beneficial for others considering joining the hanky community or existing members looking to resupply their hanky arsenal.Recently, I purchased the following 4 decently rated hankies from Amazon.- Dockers Men's 13 Piece Permanent Press Hankies, White, One Size - Van Heusen 13 Pack Cotton Handkerchiefs Solid White - Dockers Men's 6 Piece Hankie Fashion Pack, Asstorted, One Size - The Organic Handkerchiefs Company Set of Medium Organic Flannel Hankies, Natural Fellow Amazoner, here is the order in which I would recommend them to you (and why).1) Docker's Perm Press (65% poly + 35% cotton, 16x16") - absorbency: 15mm - gets a loose thread once awhile + relatively inexpensive ($1 per hanky) + iron-free and dryer safe (though I personally hang-dry everything)2) Organic (100% "organic flannel" cotton, 11x11") - expensive ($6 per hanky, ouch) - a bit small for folding purposes (11x11") - a bit harder to use while performing a nasal excavation (for you fellow miners) + absorbency: 6mm + very fluffy and is appropriately substantial + iron-free and dryer safe3) Docker's Fashion Handkie (100% cotton, 16x16") - absorbency: 10mm - needs ironing if you want it to look unused + iron-free + no loose threads + "fashion", adorable advertising scheme4) Van (100% cotton, 13x13") - absorbency: 14mm - frequently gets loose threads - requires ironing in order to not be useless - thinnest hanky among these 4 + "van 100% cotton", adorable brand bias+ all of them fit discretely into your pocket when folded properly.*Absorbency is a measurement of the diameter of the circle produced by dropping 1/4 a tsp of tap water onto the center of an unfolded hankie placed on a flat surface. I know a bucket of water would be more realistic for most of us, but this test is easier to reproduce. While Organic's hankies are probably better, I'm personally satisfied with Dockers. Dockers have a closer consistency to those evil facial tissues.Summary:- choose Dockers and/or Organic- every brand has their own abbreviation for the word "handkerchief"- don't always trust the majority (i.e. Van are the most popular hankies on Amazon)- this is what a poorly structured review looks like

Sturdy, absorbant, quality fabric.
I specifically bought these as they are advertised as organic fabric. I've now had them for a few weeks (and a few washings). So far I'm very happy with them. They have held up well in the wash. Several reviewers have mentioned a problem with lint, which I have not experienced. Although, I never use the dryer and hang everything outside to dry. However, I was surprised that they are NOT made in the U.S. Mine were mailed from India. When they arrived they were inside a plastic bag with absolutely nothing else in the envelope. There was nothing included that mentioned the use of organic fabric in their manufacture. Honestly, if I had known they were being shipped from India I might not have ordered them due to the huge environmental footprint involved with shipping. I wish that had been mentioned on the product description. Plus, I feel their price is rather high. But again, I purchased them believing they were being made in the U.S. As for the product itself, I am very happy with their quality and they should hold up well for a long time.

Not at all as described, cheap shoddy product, pictures copied from another (genuine) seller.
I had previously purchased some excellent, but expensive, handkerchiefs on Amazon from the real "Organic Handkerchief Company" in Florida. This seller is in India and copied the pictures from the genuine company. The ones I received in this shipment were not packaged as shown, and do not remotely resemble the description. The fabric is coarse and rough - I would never touch it to my skin. It has a very low thread count, so much so that you can see through it (picture #1 taken with the item taped to the inside of my window). The seams are not "rolled serged edges" as you can see in the second picture. I felt that I was taken. Fortunately, Amazon came through with a refund.

expensive, but I'm happy I bought them. I don't see a need to press them.
These all-cotton handkerchiefs are much less creased after washing than my previous handkerchiefs, which were all supposedly permanent-press, therefore a mixture of synthetic and cotton. Unfortunately, the thread on the hem of the old ones shrinks, so they don't fold nicely.I just take these all-cotton ones out of the wash promptly and smooth them out by hand before folding them. No need for pressing. These are absorbent and comfortable to the touch. Good thickness and well-hemmed. I wish they weren't so crazy expensive, but because of the excellent quality, I'm not sorry I bought them.

Love these handkerchiefs
Love them. Using them as cover to culture my milk kefir. The size and that it’s organic cotton are perfect.
