Fits properly but opening and closing is not fun
That's the only drain that fit the American Standard Jacuzzi we bought. The contractor was able to fit it perfectly, no leaks. But opening and closing it is a drag. To close the drain, you need to bend over to reach the round drain cap on the bottom and rotate it with your hand until it's almost completely closed and then rotate the dial on top to seal the drain cap. To open - first rotate the top part to crack open the drain cap, then reach all the way into the full bath to unscrew the bottom part (if it's not sufficiently open, the draining water will push it shut). Doesn't sound like a big deal if you are the one taking the bath. But if you are wearing long sleeves and need to drain a full bath after your kids every evening - you'll start cursing after a couple of times ;)

Super pricey, but fits well with American Standard Tub
We originally bought a generic universal drain kit from the hardware store but found that we couldn't get the drain control to work properly for our American Standard Colony Tub. The internal drain pipe stop always leaked. Also our tub was too tall for the standard inexpensive kit and required additional piping and modifications to make the overflow longer and make the drain operate. This name brand universal kit is designed for the full range of American Standard tubs. It comes with two waste tees to fit very large tubs. We had to cut the overflow shorter (in the provided directions) and the drain pipe shorter as well (not in the directions) to get it to fit. The overflow tube face is angled and has an angled gasket to mate to the tub and prevent leaks. The mechanism works for our small tub, but is not super smooth. The spring is not quite strong enough to pop up the drain when the tub is filled with water without providing extra manual help. It takes some time and trial and error to get the linkage length just right to operate the drain even with the recommended dimensions provided in the instructions. When I bought it, it was $120. It costs way more than the universal drains at the hardware store, but it is all metal and fits American Standard tubs well shortening the installation time. Super saver shipping was super fast for me (1-2 days).

badly engineered
The white paint finish doesn't hold up over time(though if you get the chrome version it is fine) and the overall design is quite poor. This tub drain kit sort of mimics Kohler's Clearflo superior design but American Standard made a subpar product here.First, there are no instructions with this kit which makes installation difficult in regards to initially adjusting the linkage and length of the rods, and I'm a plumber btw.Second, the knob that you turn goes on a shaft that has two O-rings that over time and use start to bind as they deteriorate making the knob difficult to turn. Lubing with O-ring grease is necessary here.Third, and the most terrible design of this kit, is the slotted brass set screw that holds the handle onto the shaft(the one with the O-rings on it). Why American Standard chose to go with a slotted screw that is difficult to get a screwdriver on instead of an Allen screw like everyone else is beyond me. Compound that with the fact that it is made of a soft and VERY easily stripped out metal(brass) makes this screw a permanent installation when either tightening or attempting to loosen it to take it apart for removing hair that accumulates on the drain spring. The problem? The head strips out very easily. At that point you have only two choices. Pry the handle off until it snaps the shaft(the replacement parts kit is quite expensive) or go thru the very slow process of unscrewing the two main backing plate screws from behind the knob to get this contraption apart. This can be done with a small flat screwdriver turned on it's side or if you have a very small, thin set of pliers. I replaced the knob's inferior brass set screw with a stainless steel M6 screw.Fourth, hair seems to accumulate on the spring more than Kohler's drain kit as well. This makes disassembling this even more important. The brass set screw will be a problem, I guarantee it. If you but this kit install it buy an M6 stainless set screw for the knob handle and throw the brass set screw away. True Value Hardware has these screws.

plumber installed, no problems
Seems fine. Beware, though: I got one that had obviously been opened. Fortunately, I carefully went through the box and found out that one very small part was missing, so I sent it back for a replacement. The replacement hadn't been opened, and it contained all the parts. My plumber installed it, and had no problems with it. Seems to work fine.
