Gene's big Vee-Jay hit, Duke of Earl (included here), has been widely available, but his mid-'60s string of hits for the Constellation label have not. This 20-track anthology includes every song from that label to hit the R&B/pop charts: Nothing Can Stop Me; Rainbow '65 Pts. 1 & 2; Just Be True; Soul Hootenanny Pts. 1 Bless Our Love; What Now; Good Times; You Can't Hurt Me No More, and more.

Gene Chandler Review
This CD will go into "My Favorite's" collection of GREAT SONGS! As a teenager, in the early '60's, in my opinion, Gene Chandler stood out as one of the best male singers of that time, hearing his songs again still makes me feel the same way...My thank's to Amazon for being the best of making it possible to find all the "CLASSICS" of all genre of music!!

Sweet Sixties Soul
Gene Chandler's music, like most of the Chicago-Soul acts, was woefully underrated and overshadowed by the folks at Stax and Motown. This is a good intro to Gene's smooth, crooning style. Here we have (of course), "Duke Of Earl" which he is best known for, but this also includes other tunes that aren't well known to those who weren't listening to Black radio stations at the time, such as "Bless Our Love," and "What Now" (the latter featuring Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions in the background). "Gonna Be Good Times" captures the spirit of a soulful party at the time, and "Soul Hootenanny" is an amaziing live recording capturing Gene's rapport with the audience (in this case at Chicago's Regal theater in 1965). Only minor complaint here is that this doesn't have Gene's 1970 classic "Groovy Situation" which those of us who remember love so well, but at least that's available elsewhere.

「Duke Of Earl」

Champion Chandler
Best remembered for his classic track Duke Of Earl Gene Chandler has a lot of surprises on this collection. It is sweet Soul Music at its very best. From an era that we can now check in retrospect we had so many great Soul singers from Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Lou Rawls and Motown giants like Marvin Gaye, David Ruffin and the irrepressible Levi Stubbs the list is endless but add Gene Chandler to that list. My favourite track is Bless Our Love. If you love soul from the 60`s go for this. Great album!
