Simple, dependable and LOUD!
If you've ever had a flood caused by someone leaving a bath running, an under-sink or utility room leak from a washing machine etc. you'll know what a nightmare it is. Downstairs it's a pain, upstairs is a disaster. These tiny things can be fitted by a complete Numptie. You need a 9v PP3 battery, peel the backing tape off, stick it on, switch it on - you're done. Like smoke alarms, they should be good for many month but you can check them by simply dabbing a bit of water/spit on the sensor plate and it should let off a loud squalk. A really great little unit. Even better, you get three - and they're cheap.

Adequately sensitive.
Proved to be simple and effective. Nice loud alarm when sensor gets wet - quite sensitive, a wet figure on the sensor will activate it.

Affordable washing line alarm
I wanted something to let me know when it rained while the laundry was hanging outside to dry. Searching found me nothing other than expensive, and complicated, devices that dropped covers over a washing line. Surely there had to be something more basic that simply buzzed when it got wet? I eventually found these leak detectors. At less than £5 each. They are basic, but that is all I needed. They are of course made for indoor use only, but I put one indoors, on the bathroom windowsill and simply open the window and rest the little sensor on the window ledge outside. One drop of rain and it lets me know. They take the rectangular batteries like smoke alarms use. There is no screw to the battery compartment, which I love, but might be wise to keep out of reach of inquisitive toddlers. (Although is pretty tight fit). Only thing I have changed is to write on it to remind myself to switch it off, and written on the on/off switch so I can see which way is which without my glasses on.

Cheap and nasty but probably works OK
Overpriced. Should be £2 a piece.

Cheap and cheerful
Chap and cheerful, but good value and VERY LOUD. I'd recommend a Lithium PP9 battery for best operation.

Low Budget Cost but Effective!
For the second time in 10 years, our dishwasher had a slow leak that eventually led to noticeably cupped hardwood flooring. Ughh. After replacing the hose fitting, I decided to install some sort of early warning leak detection system to prevent these slow, floor-soaking events from happening again. I started out thinking "high end, WIFI, Apple compatible etc. and even ordered one. After receipt, I found out I needed a special app that I didn't have and didn't want, so I returned it unopened. I then decided to take the dirt-cheap approach and purchased 3 of these for $15. After receipt, I remember installing a battery to test one and began wondering if I could do so without breaking it. They are not tough, solid, bullet-proof, and robust. They have a "low cost" character to them (no surprise). But they are good enough for normal handling and care. However, much to my delight, I found out that simply touching their sensor with a damp q-tip swab was enough to set them off. Yeah! I have seen too many videos of people pouring a cup of water on a sensor to show that they work. These low cost devices are VERY SENSITIVE! Plus, they are old school (reliable) hard wired so no need for wifi headaches. Plenty Loud too. I needed to extend the wires, which was easily done with solder and heat shrink tubing. So now I have two redundant systems. One goes to a small plastic cup under the problematic hose fitting to the dish washer, and the other is attached to the flooring just behind the dishwasher. The two alarm units are mounted under the kitchen sink. My plan is to replace batteries on a rotating 3 month schedule and to load test the removed batteries to build confidence in what their life actually is, then lengthen replacement life as I safely can. Not fancy. Not expensive. No more damaged hardwood floors. Met my needs!

Obligatoire

Extremely sensitive
I just got them and tested all 3 and so far great sensors and super sensitive. Takes little moisture to trigger them. They say to wipe the probe (part at the end of the wire that lies on the floor) after each use or when it contacts water. I can see why because water left on it would probably corrode it. Not a problem because these are far superior to the one I paid much more for and is a brand name. Loud enough to be heard but I question if they are truly 120db but the sound is ear piercing so more than acceptable to me. If you've had water damage in the past these are the best solution to warn of leaks. I have one on the basement floor and one under the kitchen sink and haven't decided where to use the 3rd. For this price and a 2yr warranty these are the most inexpensive solution and so far work great. If you want wireless alerts to phone etc then these are not for you. I have a small house so I can easily hear them. These are the best bang for the buck even if they last only 2yrs because for $22 they are worth every penny for peace of mind.
