Insider's Pre-Med Guidebook: Advice from admissions faculty at America's top medical schools

Very informative guidebook in helping navigate the complex road to medical school. I appreciated how the authors' address the question "how to determine if medicine is right for me?". A question I think everyone student should ask before embarking on this major life decision. This book outlines each step of the process from college course load, GPA, MCAT,volunteer work, how to apply, personal statement, recommendations, interviews, wait lists, to acceptances and much more. It also includes information for minority, older and disadvantaged applicants. I found the "horror stories" of what not to do during the interviews very helpful because they are real life scenarios from the authors' experiences sitting on med school admission committees. The charts are easy to understand and offer an honest look at what each medical school requires. I have purchased this book for my own teenage children and have recommended this book to other parents who have children interested in medicine.

Based on a recommendation from a friend, I bought this book for my niece in high school who is considering a career in medicine. Before giving it to her, I thought I’d look through the first few pages to make sure it was worth her time. Well, before I knew it, I was reading the entire book! It’s a real easy read full of insightful commentary and specific advice on how to prepare for a career in medicine. It goes through each facet of a med school application in detail to maximize an applicant’s chances of getting in. I especially liked how it goes through specific action plans for different scenarios. I’d highly recommend this book for anyone considering going into medicine.

Found this book quite insightful regarding what it takes to get into hyper-competitive medical school. Coming from insiders who have been on admissions committees of top medical schools, this book provides unique glimpse of what goes on behind the curtains and is good complement to the multitude of opinions by non-insider sources. Would definitely recommend to any student now considering going down the difficult and time consuming road to becoming a doctor.

Best pre med book on market, honest, and current, others are outdated on med school admissions and don't address the best way to succeed.

I found this book really helpful. It was clearly written and had many insightful graphics. Particularly useful were the section on the new MMI interview format and the list medical schools that take out of state applicants.
