How sharp does this blade come, and does it take a good edge?

It is a fairly sharp blade. Ran my finger over it lightly and it sliced through the first couple layers of skin.

Can this be used to strike flint and make fire?

If there is a coating on the knife, you would want to remove the coating where you plan on using the knife to strike flint, but I do not think that you want this surface to be overly rough. The reason for this is because you are trying to shave tiny steel fragments from the steel with the harder stone, and if the steel is too rough, you could end up abrasing, or wearing down the stone, as opposed to shaving the steel with it. I can at least tell you that none of the strikers that I have ever purchased had a rough striking surface. I would personally purchase a separate striker, and avoid using this fine knife for this purpose, but that's just me. Since it is a knife, accidentally cutting one's self is a possibility.
