It’s important to know both sides to a conflict, specially one that affected a supposable “united people” like the War between the States.

The Hardcover Print is Too Small!
I really wanted to read this book. I ordered the hardcover, and to my amazement, the print is incredibly small to the point that I can't read it - even with a magnifying glass. Don't buy this for $32. It's a waste of money, and extremely frustrating the print is too small.

Difficult to Read
The font is almost microscopic and there is no table of contents or page numbers. If you're looking for a description of a particular event, you just have to page through until you find it.

Helps Union Man to Understand Southern View
I’m a Union man, but have respect mainly for the way the South fought tenaciously in the Civil War—though not for some episodes that would later be considered war crimes. This book helped me to understand the South’s view even though I don’t agree with it and, as Grant said, it was a terrible cause in that it was a system with legalized slavery. I liked reading it, even though the text was dense in places. It didn’t change my mind that it was much better that the North won.

Fantastic source of information
I haven't finished reading this book yet. But I am so grateful to have found it! Written in 1866, it is probably the most straight-from-the-horses-mouth telling of the war from the Southern perspective. Very insightful and thought provoking. I think everyone should read this who had an appreciation for history in context.

Great subject matter with divergent viewpoint
It is a great text covering the South's perspective on the what the North termed the "Civil War". Great to hear a different opinion written right after the war and making excellent points from the view of the vanquished. Like they say, the winners always write the history, so it is great to get a different viewpoint. You really need to hunt for information like this. A little small print and a lot of pages, but the author really wanted to cover the South's perspective of the causes leading to the war and the political philosophies that the war addressed. All in all a great read.

Worst book ever
This book appears to have been assembled in a training workshop. There are no page numbers and the text is 4 point which means that you'd need a magnifying glass to read it. Maybe that's not a bad thing, because so much of the contents are ridiculous, and when not ridiculous, they are factually incorrect (e.g., Pollard asserts that VA, NY, and NJ constitution ratifications included language allowing states to secede - only NY has that language). Personally I don't mind the White Supremacist orientation for the book. After all, it was written by a Southerner from a slave-holding family after the Civil War, though for some unknown reason Pollard didn't fight in the war even though he was in his late 20s and able-bodied. But there is no well-reasoned defenses for his position. There is only one reason I didn't give this book the lowest ranking possible and that is some of the things Pollard says are correct. He's one of the few authors of this time to understand that slavery per se was not the fundamental cause of the Civil War but rather it was s symptom of the differences bet ween North and South and slavery was the lynch point on which these differences finally exploded.

Poorly manufactured product.
This version of The Lost Cause is a "print on demand" book by a company calling themselves First Rate Publishers. In truth they're 3rd rate.It is very poorly manufactured. Pages were falling out on the very day it arrived. And because the pages are unnumbered it would be very difficult to reassemble. It is also lacking an index. Which makes it impossible to find a specific subject. My advice, if you're interested in reading this historical book, for whatever reason is to avoid the one published by First Rate Publishers.

Not useful for research!
Do not buy especially if you want to use this as a reference in academia! There are no page numbers and publisher information! I will be returning since I was planning to analyze this text for a research paper...
