Can't recommend for kids to go at it alone, but good affordable gift for teens/adults
As an adult, it was enjoyable for me to put together for my nephew, who gave up after the first 40 steps. I don't blame him, the pieces are way too small for an 8 year old. Finding the pieces that correlates to the pieces required in the book was the most time consuming part, due to the vast similarity between pieces. Once you can find them, putting them together has the same satisfying snap that more expensive toy blocks offers. Expect to spend time with your child and help them find the pieces to snap together. I used a few plastic containers and separated them by color first and it helped with organization. The manual could use a re-printing, as it was very difficult for me to tell the dark blue from the black pieces in the book. Missing 2-3 minor pieces but weren't needed to finish the dragon. Oddly, Ended up with extra that didn't belong anywhere... Pieces don't stay as tight as Lego so be careful playing with it or moving it. Should be fine as a display piece.

Grandson was so happy to get this for his birthday, he asked for this specifically.
He turned 7 yrs old but has put together many large 500+ pieces of Lego sets. Some he did need help from parent to get certain parts placed properly but usually can do completely by himself. He is so excited as this is robot controlled by either controller that was included, cell phone, or his new tablet or voice control. This will be his first stem project and first remote control Lego he is making. Has a good start on it, will Take him several days to complete.

Very well made
For children who like legos and robotics this is a great gift. Needs thought and care to assemble but the results are wonderful Very well made and something you will want to buy for children interested in building things
