Bold, smooth, and consistently satisfying
Stumptown Coffee Roasters Dark Roast (Organic) delivers a rich, grounded cup that stays smooth even at full intensity. The roast leans into deep cocoa and toasted notes without tipping into bitterness, which makes it surprisingly easy to drink black. What stands out is the balanceโfull-bodied but not heavy, assertive without losing nuance. It holds up well across different brew methods, especially drip and French press, where the darker profile can sometimes become harsh in lesser blends. Itโs the kind of coffee that reliably anchors a morning routine: straightforward, strong, and quietly refined.

Is bitter better? You be the judge. I like this coffee but it's not my favorite!
The taste is rich, pungent, robust and different. If you're looking for a unique flavored coffee but still want the coffee essence, then this is a good & unique choice. I added a dash of salt (to reduce the bitterness) to my moka maker & ground the beans to a very fine quality and it brought out a wealth of taste! I wanted to give this coffee 5 stars but it's just a bit more bitter than I prefer, even after adding salt (yes, salt reduces bitterness in coffee). Enjoy!

It's okay
It's doable but not a favorite. The coffee flavor itself is very mild. You can pick up on the hints of clove, chocolate, and whatnot. It seems naturally on the sweeter side of coffees, so watch your sugar and creamer on the first cup. You may need to adjust. I don't know how fresh the beans are either. The initial smell left more to be desired. They just seem lackluster. Especially considering the cost. For those who like a lighter coffee flavor, this is probably a good fit. If you are a connoisseur, I suggest a different variety.

Not French Roast beans, very old beans, not a pound
This was an old bag of old beans. I doubt it was French roast. The date was warn off. The beans did not come close to looking or tasting like French roast. See my photo. Stumptown beans on right, other French roast brand on left. The other issue was this was NOT a pound of beans, maybe a little less than 3/4 of a pound. What a rip off. In the trash they went.
