One of the best gifts ever
My wife is a patient woman but will destroy stuff if it will consistently does not work as advertised. She needed a decent retracting reel at the horse barn. Daily use. I read the reviews of all the reels I could find. They would all say their reels work "BUT" sometimes not so much. Big red flag. The only one that people consistently raved about was the Roboreel. I was having a tough time swallowing the price but also didn't need yet another thing that had to be fixed around the ranch so I went the distance and bought it.In the mean time I also bought myself a cheaper model for my shop. Had a real tough time getting it to consistently stay pulled out when I was where I wanted it to stop. Nearly pulled it off the ceiling a few times and wanted to shoot it off the ceiling several other times. Also its breaker kept tripping at odd times. Not consistent with a certain load or anything like that. Just whenever. Hard bugger to reset especially at ceiling level.Meanwhile, after 3 years of daily use with a very happy wife and a very cool cord reel that still amazed me each time it would reel itself in safely after being able to pull it out with easily to wherever you want, the retract button quit working. Looked at it but couldn't fix it. Warranty? 2 years (at that time). Great. Bite the bullet and send it back for repairs. It soon returned fully fixed. Sent back at their expense and no questions asked. Wow!! Don't find that kind of customer service much anymore.Needless to say I bought a second one for me and yanked my previous cheap piece of junk off of the ceiling. Sometimes you pay more for a reason. Just wish I had bought 2 of them at the beginning. Lesson learned.

Alien pod retracts its naughty probe!
After seeing these over a year ago, I wanted one for the garage but couldn't swallow the $300 pill. When the price came down by a third, I bit. It WORKS! My son-in-law has a neat spring-loaded power cord hung from his garage ceiling, which gave me man-cave jealousy. Now it's his turn!A feature I really like is how you can easily program the machine to SLOW DOWN anywhere during retraction. That prevents "cable whip" which, as all mechanics know, can cause expensive accidents to cars, tools, windows, antennas... Not this one! Its quasi-intelligent programming keeps the cable moving quickly enough for efficiency, but slow enough to prevent whipping. It looks like an alien pod from the future and makes little R2D2 sounds to inform you of its status.OF COURSE my wife drove over the cable FIRST DAY! No problem... It is heavy duty 12 gauge wire, plenty thick enough to deliver gazzilions of electron faeries and keep them happy inside the magic electron tube. I ran both a table saw and a dust collector from the same outlet and didn't blow a fuse, so I know it manages a full 15 amp draw (or more under load) without hassles. I was too cheap to spring for their wall mounting unit, so I made a simple wall mount of plywood and painted it hideous green like Captain Kirk's girlfriends. No question... this is overkill for my modest home garage shop, but the immense satisfaction I get by one-upping a son-in-law is worth it. Besides, I have always been one to enjoy the latest appointments for home and office. All males who have seen it think this is cool as hell. And so far, every woman that's seen it has called it "cute" "neat" or "nifty." I suppose that's as close to product endorsement as any tool will ever get from SWMBO. (She Who Must Be Obeyed!) It really works and beats winding cables by hand after finishing the honey-do list. Helps me get to the fridge faster!

How much more need I pay for an additional 10ft
I bought this product expecting to get what was advertised as a 50ft cord reel. I wonder why it wasn't advertised as a 40ft cord reel because that's what I got. I'm curious, how many buyers got 60ft instead of 50ft. Not stopping there, I couldn't get a standard three prong plug into the cord end so I enlarged all three receptacle slots. Still couldn't get power so I opened the cord end and found an o-ring improperly installed, so I repaired it. It seems to me at almost $300 these issues shouldn't exist but I'm sure somewhere in the fine print, away from consumers eyes, all this is explained as "normal". At first I gave this ROBOREEL three stars but, after reading my own rating, I dropped it to two!!

works fine. too gadgety. will break WAY OVER PRICED
ROFL! What a joke. I tried one of these out at a tool expo.. It works, but 279$$$ WTF!!! Look on amazon and find other cord reelers that are spring loaded or hand cranked for maybe 50 bucks. Hand cranked is the way to go. No worries about springs etc. Go to an el cheapo place like harborfreight and use a 20% coupon. also are they serious 29$ for a wall bracket that is 8 ounces of plastic, or another 6 $ for a cord retract stop. You should be getting it for 279. I bet not one pro will ever buy it. I can get a 100ft 12 GUAGE cord for 54 bucks on amazon and buy a high quality reeler for another 25.or just buy something like:Alert Stamping 7080M 80-Feet Manual Cord Reel on amazon. It is 14 instead of 12 gauge but its only 76 on amazon and has a circuit breaker and 4 outlets.US Wire 74100 12/3 100-Feet SJTW Yellow Heavy-Duty Lighted Extension Cordgood luck when the motor breaks down. What happens to the innards when you start reeling the cord over wet dirty, gravelly ground on a jobsite?? Oh wait not gonna see it in use by pros. I read a review on cnet after seeing it here. Is the guy seriously so lazy he cannot reel up 50 feet of cord? That is maybe 20 seconds. When I looked at it, I saw no way to open it up and clean it out etc.

Fantastic When It Works
I cannot tell you how great this product is. Unfortunately, after only 3 months of very light use, the trigger switch only works sporadically. Too bad, because this really felt like a quality product. The wire is highly flexible and winds flawlessly. I love how it slows down at the end of the rewind to avoid any whipping of the chord. If they fix the switch, this would be 5 stars.
