My family and I recently watched the movie and were deeply touched by the main character and his unwavering faith. So much so, I had to buy the book. I gave it to my son as a gift, and he started reading it right away. Spirituality and bravery on every page.

Desmond T Doss, a man strong in his faith in God and faithful to his country, served in WWII as a conscientious participant. His deep faith and skill as an Army medic saved lives and inspired those around him. His unselfish and brave actions during battle resulted in him being presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor. This simply written book about a man great in his faith and love for his country and fellow man is a must-read.

When I saw the movie scene up on Hacksaw ridge, I had tears running down my cheeks, and I know that many others watching it felt the same.When I saw this book, I knew that I had to buy it.This story proves that sometimes, the biggest heroes aren't those with guns.At basic training he started out as a despised man, mocked and ridiculed for his belives and for his refusal to touch a gun. But when bullets started flying and the cry "MEDIC" rang out, all those prejudices vanished like a fart in the vind.Time and time again, Desmond did everything he could to save as many lives as possible, while continuously risking his own and almost right away, any idea that he was a coward vanished, and his star rose to a level he never could have imagined.After taking Hacksaw Ridge, where Doss was severely wounded, headquarters credited him for saving 100 men, while Doss said he only saved 50. They eventually agreed to meet in the middle of 75.Anyway, this is an amazing story of a man that choose to stay true to his values while the entire world was tearing itself apart.

A short written account of how he got through the war along with injuring his leg from falling into a shell hole. Then climbing back up the Ridge with his injured leg to save more lives. Injuring his left leg with an enemy grenade and getting shot in his left arm. Then finding out, while getting separated from the Army, that he had tuberculosis and the hell he went through with it. Enduring some personal family problems. Black and white photos of the campaign and photos of him. As usual, the book was better telling the more truer account of his ordeals.

As a Christian and retired USAF medic, I was intrigued when I saw the trailer for the movie Hacksaw Ridge. I had just learned about Desmond Doss' exploits from another book and had to see the movie. It brought tears to my eyes the brutality that was suffered on both sides and the caring, motivated drive that kept Doss going. Naturally I wanted to learn more so I picked up this book and read it in two days. The story was captivating and inspiring that faith can lead a person to achieve incredible heights! Now I see that as he feared, the movie took creative license to make it more spectacular. If they'd have stuck to this book, it would have been the same result. Read this book a get the true picture!
