The best ferro rod I have ever had. The length means I can generate some serious sparks and put them where I want them. The long paracord attachment allows me to fold it in and grip it with the rod. I have arthritis so that extra bit helps me get a good solid grip and allows for better control. The tool has a nice sharp edge and throws beautiful chunky sparks. I have been playing with it and practicing as I teach my son how to use a farro rod and with a properly processed tinder bundle it’s has work on the first scrap more often than not. This is now my main fire starting tool in my field kit.

THIS ferro rod is large enough to hold comfortably, to manipulate with bare OR gloved hands and the paracord tie helps grip, hold on to the rod and get the longest strike out of the rod. Terrific shower of hot sparks, very quick to ignite any manufactured tinder products, and also very successful on dried wood shavings and baked birch bark. If you run out of matches and you're well practiced with this rod you'll be fine. Manufactured tinder items are most strongly recommended, such as Tinder Quick firestarting tabs, Pyro Putty, or similar tinder products. Haven't attempted this with WetFire tinder which is fabulous with matches, but we will shortly.

I have the 5" überleben Kräftig which is more expensive than this item and works the same. Mine came with a nice small waterproof capsule for storing tinder which was a nice surprise. In addition, the paracord appears to be survivor type cord with twine, wire and fishing line in addition to the other strands. Finally, it has a whistle that isn't all that great but good to have if you get lost. The ferro rod itself works just as well as any of my other ferro rods so this one is a steal at this price. Overall great value for the price.

I love this gadget, which I found perfect for fastening to my belt loop with a metal clip and starting a roaring fire with just a small amount of tinder. Very reliable and simple to use, especially for a novice outdoorsman like myself. If you’re into camping this gadget would be a “must-have” on my list. Highly recommended product!

This thing is a beast. Much larger than I had anticipated, which was a pleasant surprise. (Note however, this is not a pocket tool. It is large.)Took a few strokes to get to the ferro and then it was throwing sparks like it was the 4th of July. Big. Hot. Sparks... don't do this into porcelain because it will leave a char mark! (Possibly one of the reasons I'm divorced.)I give this five stars.
